I'am dealing with a mid 80's polaris indy 600 that has been sitting a while. We have done all the basics like flush the gas tank, change plugs and make sure there is spark, and even checked the comp which was 75psi on all three cylinders, which is not great but it should run still shouldn't it? And from what I hear there is block drains on these motors that need to be drained. What are they and how does stuff get in to these block drains? Drained them already and stuff come out of each one, and really did not smell very good.

probably old fuel that leaked by the main jets. Some condensation also. You should pull the carbs and go through them.

as mentioned pull the carbs and chisel out the funk. blow the passages clear too. pre-mix your firs few gallons of fuel incase of a hiccup in the oiler. replace the carbs and airbox, stuff a propane wand in the airbox and feed it a fair amount of propane. now give it a tug w/o the choke on. don't be surprised if it fires right up.
