Help with trip to the snowies

Okay, so me and a few are getting a trip together to go to the snowies this winter for a few days. It will be our first time to the moutains. One of my friends is going to have to rent a sled for 2 days. I'm thinking we will stay at the albany lodge. I'm just struggling with the sled rental issue right now. The albany lodge rents sleds but with out a insurance deductable. We have never been to the mountains and we have a little idea what to expect but not fully. We want to rent from albany lodge and get a tour out of there to make it easiest but with out insurance i'm just not sure if we should. Any suggestions on where to rent? Should we even be worried about wrecking a sled or damaging it easily? We arn't reckless at all and won't be trying crazy stuff out there just wanna get the feel of it and hit some deep snow for a few days.

sled rental

You can rent from Maverick in Larime and also buy insurance on the sled, I did this last year so I think they would still offer this option.

You'll be alright without insurance seeing as how this will be your first time to the mountains so you most likely won't be ripping through the trees. Rocks are always an issue but usually after December they're covered. There is another rental place at the Greenrock area that rents Yamaha's and they might have insurance available. Not quite sure on the exact name though. Good Luck

Maverick isn't renting sleds this year. I was up there last weak and they said they had to sell there rental fleet because they were losing money.

Might want to look into what kind of coverage you have on your credit card too. Most credit cards have a rental insurance on them, give your credit card a call and see what they have to say.

As others have stated, check with your credit card company or homeowners Ins. Also check with your auto insurance. See if they have any kind of short term rental insurance. It would most likely be cheaper to pay for most repairs out of your pocket then a short term Insurance policy. I've seen alot of torn up rental sleds. Without being totally destroyed, the repair bills range from $150 to $450.
If you want someone to show you around, just ask. My self and many others are always willing to show off the area.

Occasionally I guide for Snowy Range Tours, we offer insurance but the deductible IIRC is in the $750 range. IMO would do as others have stated and check credit card, home owners, etc. Good luck, Dan.

I rented a 08 Nytro from SRT 3 years ago and was basically shown the parts & labor list. I was not offered to purchase insurance. Is this new? I know Maverick used to charge a hefty refundable deposit on your card along with the insurance fee

Hmmm, I don't think it's new. Not sure though, I've just helped 'em out the last couple of years when they're short of guides. I'll ask next time I'm up.

Get Insured

Just like most others have said many times homeowners insurance will cover you as well as some credit cards, but I would check with your agent well in advance. I would HIGHLY recommend insurance because I have seen close to 50 sleds over the years totaly wasted once they hit a rock and as a matter of fact once in Dubois Wyoming about 5 years ago I was witness to a guy that totaled 3 rental selds in two days. Needless to say he spent the rest of his vacation wasted in the bar himself :face-icon-small-ton

Once last thing. The reason they call them the Rockies isn't because they are full of marshmellows. GET INSURED for both the machine and you body as well.

One should also consider liability insurance.

Without damage/collision insurance and you total a sled it could cost you $10,000 approx.

Without liability insurance and you run into someone the medical bills could easily cost you 10x what a sled would cost.
