Help with Title/MSO

I posted here cause I figured this polaris section has the most action,
Anyway, I bought an IQR that has never been titled, and the MSO is lost.
I went ahead and put insurance on the sled yesterday, and got to thinking that if anything were to happen to the sled the ins co would want the MSO/Title.
Can a dealer get a copy of the MSO using the Vin#?
Has anybody done this? Can any dealers on here help I don't mind paying for it.

Only the original owner can ask for a duplicate MSO from the selling dealer, FYI it is against the law to sell anything without transfering to the seller a MSO, or title, use for leverage if needed

Had the same problem with an '08 IQRR. Not fun. I sold the sled to the next poor sap. I hope it wasn't you :face-icon-small-sho

I won't have any problem selling the sled, but thats not my goal Just thinking whether or not I should pay $180 to insure. If the sled was stolen from me or totalled and ins asks for title I might be SOL.

I think the MSO is only a manufactureres title. Once you title the sled in your state the MSO becomes trash.

I would think the DMV or the dealer could help you out if you had the vin number.
I know they can look up lost titles for a fee too.

That's not how it works here in Colorado. You should be able to order a replacement through your local polaris dealer. Also, I don't know where you are at but here our state registration and bill of sale will suffice. When I worked at the dealership here we were constantly getting trades that had no mso...that's because Colorado is a "non-title" state. I ran into this when I totaled my ski-doo. I had to prove ownership through my state registration and also used "boss web" ski doo reg to prove I owned it. Mso is not proof of ownership since it is only a certificate of origin.....meaning your name is not printed on it. Your stayed however may require this. Just saying its different everywhere. Hell half the people here in sw Colorado probably can't even find third mso. Good luck. By the way, when I totaled my sd I bought a 09 iqr . Turned out the saddest moment(hitting the tree) created one of the best ........love that iqr

What you said is correct but you left out that even in nom titling states you must have an mso the first time you register it or everyone could steal it and register it any place we are a titling state but a trade from col must have been registered or no go on a sale

In NV a bill of sale should be all you need. They do not title or register sleds here. Just can't sell in CA. but your insurance should be good. All my insurance co. ask for was the vin. and I gave them a picture of that.

5 years ago I totalled a sled, and the insurance co wanted the title before they issued me a check.
I simply gave them the MSO, since NV doesn't register sleds hence no title.
I have a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from, just question whether ins would pay out without Title/MSO.
