Help with M8 clutch setup and belt problem?

So I have 2009 M8 162 Sno Pro, stock with Jaws can

I run mostly around 9k elevation

My clutching mods are a BDX 42/36 helix, D&D torsional secondary with a sno pro green spring (spring in 2nd lightest hole).

I am running 70 gr Cat weights and a 120/340 primary spring

My RPM is dead on at around 7800-7900 RPM.

Trackspeed on a long hill climb seems descent at low 40s. However in high load or short pulls track speed really lacks at like low to mid 30s. Stock seemed to be similar but with poor backshift.

This setup backshifts nicely and is very snappy. I would like to improve upshift as it seems to be very poor.

However, my current problem is this clutch setup likes to pull the threads out of the belts. Blew a belt today in some epic over the hood the powder conditions. Pulled the threads out of the belt and they got wrapped up in the primary and secondary. Had to be cut out of the primary. Wound up with a rats nest of belt thread.

I also get quite a bit of belt dust underhood.

I've never had a problem like this in my compression setup in my M7 or any of Polaris setups. Actually this is the only belt I've ever blown on any sled with any clutch setup.

Recommendations?

Switch to a lighter primary spring?

Try red/white torsion spring?

I am debating ditching the torsion setup and putting the orange spring in. I have a straight 36 too, but in my M7 the progressive really helped my upshift.

I used to run the TEAM compression springs in my M7 and I am debating going back as the upshift seemed better with that setup. Not quite as snappy though.

Also, I have the alignment tool and everything looks good.
Any input is appreciated.

Easiest would be to dump the heavy spring first. I tried a 330 or so finish rate spring, and didnt like it at all. It reved fast, held RPM, but really didnt do anything for the first while, just made noise but didnt pull hard at all. Even throwing a bunch of weight at it, it was just very odd. Try a lighter spring, same weights, load the motor a bit more and get the rpm down closer to 76-7700 and see how it acts. I cant offer an opinion to the belt cord issue, as mine likes to start peeling the cord out before i even make it off the trail from the truck. Good luck, keep us posted either way with whatever you find!

Here's what I did, put 80 gr cats, and then a turbo:beer;

But seriously:D Sounds like you know your stuff, I clutch for epic:D

Saying this, I will over rev at times.

You must be losing some rpm, when you need it most.

Maybe your secondary is to tight, according to AAEN that cuts down on efficiency.

Hope you get it figured out

I am having the same issues with a Cutler torsional spring setup. I use to run a TEAM setup on my M7/M9 and really liked it. I am going back to this setup. It is super simple and if you run the shift assist under it, is very smooth. I have everything I need to do it except the aluminum end cap that screws on to the helix. I also haven't decided on a spring yet. I'm thinking either a red/pink or black/white. It's called returning to the basics of what I know works and keeping it simple. IMO their is no better setup than the TEAM Industires setup. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the help guys

Maybe I will try the stock primary spring with what I have.

Then try Red/white spring.

If no improvement then I will switch to the TEAM setup.

For reference, in my 06 M7 with a Speedwerx single and RKT head I was running 68s but I can't remember what primary spring. I was running the 42/36 helix and red/white TEAM Spring.

This setup had similar top end power to my M8 but less lowend torque.

Are you sure red/white (100-200)? That seems awful light. I would think you would need more like red/black or red/pink.
