Help with a edge project sled

I found a good deal on a franken-sled project and I need some help.

The sled is a '02 edge x 600
the motor is a 500 w/ VES

Now, the motor is apart and the one cyl is in rough shape. What is my best source for a new or used 500 cyl? I found a cyl exchange service for $245 or new OEM is like $400.

The 500 motor has electric start, can that be hooked up easy with a wiring harness or somthing?

The exhaust is bent up and no good, what pipes will fit/work best. They are all over ebay I just don't know what I need.

Any good performance mods I should do while the motor is out?

Help me out if you can, I am excited to get rid of the wedge and into the edge.

May be different for you but when I needed my cylinders done I had to have them sent out and get new ones sent back. Bit harder to find cylinders for an xr 440 though. If you are planning on getting cylinders off of ebay or craigslist or anything of the sort, be very careful.

I scored up a 600 VES and 700 VES cylinder and had them sent to US Chrome for rebuilding. I just picked up the 700 today. I think the 600 had less damage and ran about $250 to fix, the 700 was $295. They welded up the damage, rebored and then re-nicasiled the cylinder to meet stock specs. You will need to send the piston you plan to run in that hole with it so they can bore it to match. I'm not sure if you can send it in yourself, or if you have to have a shop do it. I went through my local performance shop which was handy.

For the money it will cost you to get that 500 fixed and get any power out of it, you could have a 600 VES back in there and you will be happy.. Lots of mods available for the 600 also.. not so much for the 500.. This is just my opinion, but it would be the route I would look into before dumping any money into the engine you already have.. :)

OK so I found a good deal on a 98 XC 700 twin (complete sled) what do you guys think about swapping that in to the edge chassis? Since I have the entire seld it should be easy enough right? Let me know what you think....

Your budget will dictate what mods and pipe options you can go with, also depends on what kind of rider you are and what you are looking to get out of the sled. ie.trail riding or deep snow riding. In any case SLP exhaust systems are always a good choice, cylinder porting would be a good choice also.
