Help washer and dryer front load..steam?

Wife dragged me out today and said she is getting a new washer and dryer. WOW, to many choices. She is set on the X/Large capacity front load washer and the steam dryer with high riser stands under them. I know nothing about these and honestly the salesman sounded like he was talking jibberish to me. What I do know is the electronics on these look like I will be lucky to get 5 years out of them without breaking down. So before I drop 2500 bux on these I thought I would ask for some suggestions and some stay away from units. Best place to buy to get good price? Any help would be appreciated.

We bought the Whirlpool Duet Steam washer/dryer set a couple of weeks ago. The wife has no complaints.

father inlaw has an appliance store, for the money, quality, speedqueen front loader set, they won't pump out enough water to get them dry if you put a bolt in the pump, don't know how that would happen:rolleyes:

didn't hurt it though

After our experience with LG, we will not buy anything from that company again:mad: We have had very good luck with Sears, Kenmore warranty was excellent. Sorry can't help you on the steam thing, bought ours before steam was an option...

Thanks for heads up...wife was just showing me an ad on a LG set. The power of the net is awesome. We will stay away from those.

I bought the Mrs. a new set about a year and a half ago...LG's w/the bases. When I bought them they had the best reviews I could find. They have been great...no issues to date. Plus the Mrs. loves them.

we bought the whirl pool duet sports a year ago with bases. we had our pump in the washer replaced already. it was under warrenty completly.

Go with LG Front loaders and make sure you buy her the pedestals to go with it. Couple hundred bucks extra. Will give ya the green to buy sled parts!! Mine did........

We bought the LG's a year ago. I've never done a load, however my clean cloths show up in the closet on a regular basis and I don't hear any complaints from my old lady.

i have a front loading set and have one complaint..

the gasket/weatherseal whatever you want to call it does not totally dry.. EVER!! therefore, water sits in there FOREVER and WILL start to stink.. i called lowes, they told me to call the mfr. they said try to run a load of just bleach. NO WORKY! then they said to wipe it out with a towel wetted in rubbing alcohol.. havent done that yet..

i have heard a few other people with front loaders with the same problem.. they work good but, they do have flaws..

We bought a set of the kenmore elite from sears and got the pedistals as well when we built our house last year. my wife is a freak about clean laundry and she loves them the steam thing works really slick. we haven't had any trouble 2 highschoolers in the house and she does laundry atleast 4-5 days a week.

buddy of mine is the GM of the second largest wholesale appliance chain in etown
all he has in his house is frigidaire.
maytag has the highest service calls per unit sold, LG is a no go. sells Frigidaire to all of us buddies. all we have ever bought was from him and all is good.

for washer sets its the only stuff to buy he says, with kenmore a close second.

the whole front loading thing is all about low energy and water usage. IMO I dont think they clean as well as top load. take your shirt out and spray it with the hose and see how clean it gets. Now take the same shirt and stick it in a big tub of soapy water and agitate it, it will get much cleaner. supposedly your clothes last longer with the low usage wash and dry but I havent noticed anything. We spent $2400 on the lgs and they are fancy but the washer vibrates pretty bad when spinning. Would send them back but too big of a pain. I saw some on the Christmas ads for $1200 for the pair and was wishing we had spent that much.

thanks for the laugh!

We've had the Duet Steam for a while and really love it. Steam in the dryer is nice to freshen cloths and steam in the washer to sterilize my work cloths.

We wipe the door seal dry with a paper towel after the last load on laundry day and then do not shut the door completely. Leave it open about an inch so the seal and inside can dry completely. I think the owner's manual says to do that. Ours is sears, four years old now, no problems, works great, no stink.

I get a kick out of how about half the people responding to this thread emphasize that their washers and dryers belong to their wives, or old lady as a few call them.

I've got the Kenmore front loads at home and haven't had an issue other than having to run the spin cycle twice once in a while to get the clothes dry enough to go in the drier.

The pump even sucked up some change once. It was a PITA to get at, but didn't break anything.

I was looking at those...do those come with the pedalstles?

Have the Bosch also, wife love's them. We purchased a pedistal for the washing machine. Also have a Bosch dishwasher, wisper quiet. Have had good luck with them.
