HELP! Sliders

Generally you dont need scratchers, snowmobiles do because the skis are outside of the track and they dont throw much snow on the rails, but on a bike your ski is constantly throwing snow on your rails... scratchers will only throw snow on the very back portion of the rails, look at the location of the tips of the scratchers in relation to your rails. If you need more snow on your rails you will need to mount some cable style ones on the outside of the ski at the back, mounting spring style scratchers on your rails isn't going to do anything for where you burned your hifaxes.

You still haven't said what your track tension was. Just a bunch of bitching. Did you figure out what the problem was? Your slider wear is unusual so we are wondering what was up.

I dont know the reason why they wore out! They got to hot i guess. My metal clips are all covered in plastic.

I set the tension back to exactly where it was before and aligned the track evenly. I dont think it was the tension? Maybe it was miss aligned a bit judging by the wear on the worn out hifax sliders? ive never owned a snowmobile or snowbike. Learning as I go.

first picture is of the track sag from gravity. Second picture is me pulling down the track as far as it would go.

I have not adjusted a single thing on the timbersled kit. I am 5'11" 195lbs.

here are some pictures of it sitting flat.

the front suspension is adjusted to where the top of the fork tube hits the bottom of the handle bar.

Everything looks good to me, you must have just been running in too little snow for too long. One thing I would do is put your forks flush with the triple clamp, the older forks are already about 1.3" shorter than the sx/xc, I put shorter forks on my xc to steeper the head angle but yours is about right flush, that setup will put a little too much pressure on the front of your track. If you melt them again I would look into doing Hyperfax and some ski scratchers.

With the front ski sunk down 2 inches into the snow it might not be so flat anymore. It looks really good on concrete. Ill probably adjust the forks to be flush with the triple clamps.

What are hyperfax?

Your forks are up too high. Drop them down and make sure you have stiffer springs installed. I suspect the forks are way soft with lots of diving. These issues will put too much weight on the front of the skid where you wore out the slides.

There's always some detail they are leaving out when they initially tell their stories!:face-icon-small-win I've done it too!

I have "Race Tech .52 KG Fork Springs for KTM 2008-10 450 SX-F" on order. Ill raise up the forks and put in the new springs when they come.

Thanks for the help!!!!! You guys are life savers!

Drop those forks more like snowhawk said.... the top of the upper leg clamp should match up with the 2nd groove in the top of the fork. That's how it is on my SXF.

And you WILL melt your hifax on a long groomed trail if you aren't skirting out to powder every mile or so and blasting some fresh snow in them. Sleds have the same problem... this isn't a bike thing only. I melted my hifax on a super cold day where the entire trail was like concrete. If the guy behind you smells plastic you better pull over or get some scratchers.

Along with dropping the forks and stiffer springs, I'd go ahead and get some handlebar risers too. All these things together will help you get weight off the front. I did all those things and it sure made it easier to ride standing up and to lighten the front.
