*HELP* Sled Stuck South of Muddy Creek Lot

Good workout?

Man that had to be some kinda workout. Would been hard on these flatlander lungs:)

DJ got the major workout as he was re-rigging the blocks after each 50 foot pull (he must have some farm boy in him!). Up and down that hill a hundred times We'd hook up the rope to my sled and I'd make the pull, then go around and pack trail for the next pull, hook up and pull again. Once we got rolling we made good time but i'm glad it was pretty short and not too steep. I've had those little pulleys for a few years and they worked great. The rope was a stretchy climing rope and really gave a bungee effect. I have a 1/2" 30 meter rope we used to anchor to a tree and provide a tie off for the block and tackle, which used a 200' 3/8" rope. We'd get about 3 pulls before needing another anchor.

It's too bad about his track as he just put it on last year. Not sure why it tore clean through as my A arm seemed to have just caught the outside edge. It was a drilled track and that couldn't have helped though. All's well that ends well, and quickly:)

Thanks a lot again Paul..I know that wasn't the plan for the weekend...but...definately glad its out now after hearing about what happen to that other guys sled that got left out there..

Someone stole his skis, aftermarket pipe n such off his 'broke/stuck' sled... Some really lame stuff there... Goes to prove even our own kind (snowmobilers) are just as worthless as anyone else out there.
Hell, I didn't even wanna leave my sled sitting in the Dumont lot for more than 30 mins after we dropped it off there...

Was an experience if nothing else, not one I wanna go through again any time soon...but...an experience...

I'll get some of the BETTER pics n vid posted from the fun we had before the incident...I didn't even bring the cam on day 2, for obvious reasons, Paul got those covered tho. :P

edit: and, their email address is dead/full/not working...soooo...hmm

Closed Sun & Mon..guess I'll email a estimate...but not sure if a COMPLETELY torn track will be fixable???

Its tore all the way accross..

no longer round at all! :P

Any idea if thats fixable?

I'll email the form and see what they say, but was hoping to get somethin by next weekend..that, and the tracks still there, and may be gone/stolen by time I can get up and get it..

DJ how bad is the track? www.rubbertrackrepair.com. My boy in Buena Vista. Suppose to work great

Where's that thread? First I ever heard of it!

wasn't a thread, i talked to him at the dumon lot when i pulled my sled up next to his rig, he pointed out his trackless sled on the trailer and told me about it.

apparently the sled was barried in a big hole.. saw a pic of what he had it in...but yet someone still got at it and stripped it...amazing...

Sorry about the motor PJ, that much pow puts them to the test quick! We ran into Catlady and crew and they passed on that story about the stripped sled.

Your track should be safe down in that treewell i'd think. At least it's just off the trail now and easy to find. I've got the GPS coords when we, or you go get it out of there. Next time i'm up i'll get it if you don't first. I had no idea you could repair a halved track or we should have hauled it in too, just didn't seem too important at the time.

yeah, at the time i really was in a dont give a f mood anyway...
i'll see what i can find out about repair first...but i think theres a bit more dmg than a "slight rip" :P haha

What was the deal w/ the engine? More deto? Bad fuel? too high compression? lean?

I felt for mine a few times when running WOT for minutes run after run :P Moving at about 5 mph...at WOT is sorta amusing... lol

I have no idea. It was back at the RMX setting that Xtreme had it at last year. Could be a cracked carb boot, bad DPM, something amiss with the timing, phucked up carb, who knows? The PTO side was fine. It's down at the South store now, I'm trying to find out what happened as the tech was supposed to tear it down yesterday.

That sucks about that other dude's sled. Nobody noticed somebody hauling out a track, skis, pipe and what not? That's something that I would've taken a suspicious eye to, had I been around.

From what I've heard it was a pretty crappy weekend for a lot of folks.

Right Tool

I made a plastic skid runner just for this type of situation. Mainly I was thinking of a track that would not turn when I built it. I connects to the track or in your case could be connected to the drive shaft and then goes back around the back of the track. In your case it could be wrapped around the back axle shaft. It is the same material as hyfax if made from so it slides on the snow very easy. It is probably about 16" - 18" wide and about 8 ft or so long. I have carried it for about 5 years now and used it only one time. If you would like to borrow it, I would loan it to you.

Got the sled out 4 days ago (or several posts back). lol Used a Walmart sled and it worked perfect. But thanks:)

thanks for the offer, but as Bushmaster said, already got it out. was a bit ackward being towed in and having the back slide around like...it was on a sled! but i think the cheaper sled would have been worse, this one was nice w/ the groove down the middle to help funnel snow...sorta like a ski, helped keep it straight. AND, the handles worked great to strap to. which, btw Paul, I figured out where those ratchet straps went! lol around the skid. o.O took me about 2 hrs into my drive home to think / remember that!

somewhere i saw somebody tie a track back together with some parachute cord or something like that, and ride it home....mabye that and a few zip ties would hold it together???hmmm

i wonder how well it would work in the powder....mabye good enough to get you up a hill or so...
just something to think about

glad you guys got it out ok....

later

i considered the option and then thought, if this doesn't work, we're wasting a helluva lot of time tryin to do it this way...when the old fashion, grunt work is a guarantee...with time. and to get out of where it was, it would have took a good crack of WOT...
