help!!!! my first turbo and its broke

I purchased an 2003 rx1 with a bender rear mount turbo. Its an m24 garrett that lost a bearing due to the oil pump failure. How do i figure out what stage the bender kit is and who can fix the turbo. thanks for any information!

find out EXACTLY what garrett turbo is on it and you can probably just order some new parts, ebay is full of rebuild kits, just make sure you get a good one, not some chinese crap.

thanks ill try that. Im still planning on making it to the forum ride but I will not have the turbo ready. BE on the m. Skyland is our stomping grounds

If it has an airbox it is a stage 1, if it has an intercooler it is considered a stage 2.

If its a journal bearing turbo you can rebuild it but if its a ball bearing one they don't sell rebuild kits for it . You have to buy a new center section for it and they're not cheap, Ken.

stage 1 it is then. thanks. I wonder if i can even get 220 horse out of her then.

It'll make the power but the problem is the intake charge will be so hot it isn't too good for the motor. I actually have a Bender airbox here as well as an intercooler core. I was going to build an intercooler out of it for my buddies Bender Rx but we stumbled onto an intercooler and bought that. If you are interested send me a pm. As for you sled I wouldn't run it over 10lbs for any length of time but I guess guys do even without the intercooler. Are you running race fuel, do you have a headshim?

I agree get the intercooler.. and with that small turbo it won't last over 10lbs of Boost.. also do you have engine oiling system or rear tank oil. The rear oil tank is also a problem IMO. With Justin's help went to the 2560 and his engine oiling kit and a few other pieces and it is not even the same sled..:D:beer;:beer;

I was with my buddy when he seized the turbo. He rolled his sled, popped the fuse for the rear oil pump and didnt know it tell it was too late. This happend three years ago and it hasnt moved since. I got it for a song. It is a ball bearing turbo so that sucks. As far as the head shim goes i have no idea short of tearing it apart.

You can tell if you have a shim of gasket stacked without taking the engine apart. Look behind the primary clutch under the the delta box, you can see the cylinder head to block. Stock came with 1 headgasket made up of 3 pieces riveted together. Some stack 2 or 3 gaskets, or take apart 1 headgasket & put on either side of a alu shim.

I finally got a hold of justin and I need a new center section for the turbo. $585.00 ouch!!! Justin is great, he gave me quite a bit of his time on the phone answering my questions about the early rear mount turbo system on the rx-1.
