Help me figure out this Rev

Hi guys,

I'm up in the Park City area and am a pretty good mechanic/welder but am new to sleds. I picked up this '04 Rev that is pretty heavily modded for hill climbing, and I'm trying to get it dialed for big mountain riding and boondocking..

I need a little bit of help with a couple things:
1) getting a narrower front end on it
2) figuring out jetting for high altitude. It's cutting out right now a little when warm. Compression is good.
3) Changing the exhaust to be quieter and better for torque. I was thinking just stock exhaust maybe? Right now it has dual crank shop pipes on it.

Post up some of your thoughts!

Or ideally, I'm looking for someone locally who knows their stuff if possible to shoot the **** and maybe help me out, I'll thaw it out, load it up and bring it on over! I have cash/beer/ and things for trade. I'm also a pretty good welder and have lots of 4x4 and KTM 4 stroke stuff might be willing trade too. For example the Crankshop pipes off this sled, trade for stock with a little help?? Willing to drive also...!

Here's a pic, and then here are tons of photos and description of the mods.. http://andreshoumatoff.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/SkiDoo-Rev-800-Summit-Custom

Also just FYI I have it on KSL right now incidentally with a bunch of other toys too, but not because I want to sell it mostly because my wife wants me too. So just mentioning in case someone calls me out.. :D

Yeah, ditch the twin pipes and find a stock pipe to put back on it. Lots of people have tried to make a better pipe for the Doos for years, not many have succeeded in doing anything but making them slower and/or louder.

That will also dictate the jetting changes of course.

Search "ttabs" on the Dootalk forums....read his Rev post...plan on taking a week to read through it, he has done every mod worth a darn on the REV. Good stuff! (this was from years ago, he now rides a turbo yami)

Cool, I'll check them out. Also I know these crankshop pipes are supposedly worth something but I found a guy who wants to trade straight across, and we'll pull the sled down to his place with heated garage, swap straight across for his setup which is stock pipe, dynaport can (I really like Dynaport from my KTM experiences), and we'll also run through the carbs and jetting.

Before then as a starting point I think I'll pull the shocks, measure them, and based on that likely send up to Logan to Zbros for stiffer initial springs and probably a rebuild if they are 17.5 or 17" inches. If they are 18" I'll just leave them as is and likely just sell the whole front end setup at some point and switch to a Summit or other narrow setup.

thanks guys, really appreciated..

Do folks have jetting recommendations for around here?

Here is what it will be:

K&N style free flowing filters
91 domes in the head, engine was a complete Trygstad (not sure how much more this adds over stock)
stock pipe, the dynaport can
no dpm

Running 7,500 to 11,000 feet on average

I would bet you could find someone to trade you for a stock motor.. If I didnt have the R Id switch you over for everything. I think youll find the stock air box to work better. I have one. If you make it up to logan let me know ill trade you a tall boy budweiser for it :) . The no dpm might be a pain. Im gonna take a wild guess and say maybe 360-400 mains? But its relative to the port job. I ported my cylinders and put twins on my R and went from 460 to 380. Kinda backwards but thats what it wanted. Id trade you my stock 07 exhaust with a can for those twins and id give you some cash.. Not sure how yours would run tho with an 07 exhaust on it

Yeah its a tough one. I'm psyched for the race motor if it really is putting out that much extra power. I'm sure the whole head is ported and polished because the whole engine was built by Trygstad. I don't mind premixing because I did this a lot with my dirt bikes. This said the stock sled (the other '04 in the photo) performs great and has enough power in my opinion when boondocking... So maybe stock would be better. I dunno....

But good to know on the airbox.. :) Also I'll send you a PM. I think I have this deal worked out to just trade straight across, not sure its a bad deal for me or not...

thanks

The CS twin can make some good power on the REV chassis, but you have to find that sweet spot in the RPM range. If they fall out of that spot they loose a bit of power. A good single with a can is tough to be for all around riding. If it was me I would make an effort to try and find a DPM to re-install. Even with motor work its worth having. Otherwise your jetting for altitude, temp, etc for the given day.

My 600 Trigger motor had very little porting. All the power is made with:
1)Hi Comp Head
2)Intake & Exhaust
3)Hi Rev Ign Box

I went and role about 15 miles yesterday up in Tollgate again. Good times. It also seemed to run a little better I think as I flush a little of the slightly old fuel through it too. It only bogged in a couple spots on a certain elevation and climbing only. Otherwise it had gobs and gobs of power. On the hills I messed around in, if there were worn tracks, it climbs better than any sled I've ridden, as can be expected. Because it's pretty stiff in the rear and soft up front with the initial springs it is definitely running a little deep in the rear on powder where my track is going a little farther into the snow than other tracks. I only managed to get stuck once though. Being 240 nekkid and 6'5 makes me think maybe I should shoot for a 159 or even a 163 possibly. Though weight is important, and the other 151 sides in powder great.

Anyway I'm definitely having a dillemma of just selling it and buying a mountain sled or starting to work on the transition to more of a mountain sled. The work I'd have to do is:

1) narrow front end.
2) possibly shorter shocks, my guess is it actually has 17.5" based on how it sits with the MZX front end, but that is still some $$ that I'd have to spend.
3) I agree that the DPM will be a bitch. with 4 strokes you can get 3-4K feet range in altitude no problem. Not sure about the 2 strokes. I'd have to find a DPM and adjust I guess.

So that is a lot of work. The sled is somewhat clean, only real issues are that its set up for hill climbing, and needs a new on off switch. They pulled this off on purpose so it wouldn't die on the hill climbing...

So defintetly curious on folks thoughts. Also, if someone is looking for a pretty hill climber in possibly trade for a mountain sled, let me know! I'd like to stick with a Rev though I think...

Usually the HC team puts wider A-arms (MXZ) on but doesn't lengthen the shocks. This lets it sit lower in the travel and squats more, ideal for climbing. You could go back to Summit A-arms without changing the shocks out.

Custom Axis shocks are nice!
