Help! Leaky plumbing!

I share a well with the neighbor. I am pretty sure the previous owner plumbed this. There is old 2 inch lead pipe coming into my house and then it looks like he has put smaller pipe inside that. There is a fitting on the newer pipe with a shut off valve right where it comes out of the old pipe. But the water is leaking out of the old pipe and turning the shut off valve doesn't do any good. I had to have the neighbor turn my water off.

Does anybody have any ideas how this guy plumbed this? It looks like an amateur's job....like a job I would do! haha

My thoughts are that he ran some flexible line through the old lead pipe and it corroded.....and I could be chasing a leak for a 150 feet to the neighbors house and digging trenches in my yard! UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH

Help please!

Are you sure the 2" lead pipe isn't just a sleeve thru the wall? What kind of pipe is the newer pipe?Copper or galvanized?

lead pipe? have you been playing too much clue?. miss scarlet, lead pipe in the conservatory

slut, put a magnet on it...that will tell you if it is lead or galvy. I would imagine the bigger pipe is a sleeve as mentioned, problem is, your leak is outside and you are gonna have to do some diggin' to reveal it......unless you have a borescope.

it seems to be galvanized....I cant see inside the old pipe to tell.....yes the old pipe could very well just be a sleeve.

I figured I am gonna have to do some digging....uugh...I think it is under my deck too.

no just slap me some rep. is it a well or city water. sounds like i would put in a new line. this what i do for a living

you got it....i will get ya some rep. I share a well with my neighbor, I had them shut off my main. What do you charge for something like this Blu?

it all depends. what kind of soil. we usally shoot our hawg or gopher out of the basment to the well so there is limited diging. works real good for coming out existing homes under decks or sidewalks. does not work real well if it's clay. we do 60' shots with backhoe included for 600. polly pipe 160# at a $1 a foot

gotcha....thanks bro....do you work with insurance much? Do you know if Allstate covers this stuff? They just gave me a claim # and said they would get back to me within a day. I can't stand them and have been meaning to change my home owners insurance. They denied a claim on me last summer when my basement flooded. I think I am going to go to small claims court on it.

One more thought....the water that is coming through the sleeve is really clean and clear....the leak must be right around the sleeve right to be that clean and clear?

cant you use the old line as a fish to pull a new line through the sleeve from your well house to house to prevent any digging...??

I think what our SW plumbers are saying ...is that the sleeve is just right at the house....to get the pipe into the house.

...and the damn thing is right under the inner corner of my deck!:mad:

hey blu, ever try using the poly line for your air to make longer shots? I have made some pretty long shots.

and BTW who is Du, and should you be advertizing that you blu him:D

ssh that is what we use is the polly for air. we have made alot of 100' shots. 130' is the longest i remember

what i know about insurance is that it probaly won't pay it. flood basement will only be covered if a pipe breaks unless you have flood insurance for out side rain water that enters the house. but you might be able to say that the line has been leaking and it flooded the basement. but there is this town home complex we work at that have leaks every year and they were turning in a claim that they were paying but were cancelled. so it's worth a try
