HELP! Found a used trailer, what's it worth?

So I've been scouring ads looking for an enclosed trailer to help save my new axys coming this fall. It's a v nose drive in drive out haulmark two place trailer. He doesnt specify a length but judging by the pro sitting in it, it looks to be 12' from the back door to where the nose starts. It's a dual axle trailer and looks (from the pictures) to be in great shape with ski and track guides throughout. He says it's a 1994 but as good of shape as it's in it really looks newer. He is asking 3500. Is that a fair price for what I described? Calling him shortly to see if he is open to trade for a sled I'm trying to sell, or see how negotiable he is on cash price. It's just hard to put a number to it as it's much older than what I'm used to seeing.

Thanks

Seems a little high unles you're in AK, but IMO it's more about the condition, miles, features than the model year when buying older stuff.
For that much I'd expect it to have been garaged and have new tires, brakes working good etc.
If it was an aluminum trailer it would probably be worth that much or more.
But only know what you've seen for sale in your area and the $.

Thanks guys. I called and made a deal with him last night. We did 2900 and I should be picking it up monday afternoon. It is very clean. He replaced the floor and the walls and repainted as well as new wiring and new tires. Here are the pictures I have

That's a nice looking trailer. I think you did alright at $2900. I had a similar one that was all aluminum (Expedition was the brand) and it was a great trailer and the size was perfect for two sleds. We just outgrew it.

I think you got a good deal on that. Having windows, completely finished interior, ski slides, etc. all make the price go way up when you spec out trailers. We have a couple 1999 model year Haulmarks and they have been solid.

Yeah I hate buying things site unseen but it's a 3 hour drive one way so it wasn't real easy to drop by and look at. But the pictures look good and the guy seemed to know what he was talking about and seemed to be a straight shooter over the phone. I've been keeping an eye out for one for about the last 6 months and compared to everything else I've seen, this one was going to go fast. I've found it hard to find a v nose for less than 4500 at the lowest. Ideally this would have been a little bit longer, but this will be fine as I don't currently have an immediate need to haul more than two sleds.

I intended to go pick it up last night but soon found out I have an atm withdrawal limit and the bank had already closed. I explained it all to him and he agreed to delete the ad and hold it for me until monday. Very excited to get it home and clear up some space under the carport where the current trailer/sleds are!!!

Good to hear your haulmarks have been good trailers!

Looks like you did good, I have been watching for a 17' +5' V for several months and haven't found anything that looks that clean or that price in any size around here.

Well thought I did good. Guy just texted me and backed out. Guess a guy's word isn't worth it's salt these days. That pisses me off.

Anybody looking to sell a decent trailer at a decent price?

Ouch. Consider paying with Email Money Transfer in a situation like that as soon as you agree on the sale. That way he can't back out like this. Works instantly 24/7 at any distance.

2900 is pretty low for that trailer. I'm guessing someone seen his add and offered him the 3500 he was asking. Sometimes when you beat people up on price it back fires on ya. Year means nothing on trailers, its all about condition. Based on the pics I would price that trailer closer to 4500. Eric

If I made a deal with somebody that's final. I would have have him 3500 if he didn't want to come down. Fact is he came down, agreed on a price and the pick up time then backed out. That's what pisses me off. Oh well guess maybe there's a better one around the corner

Well hopefully I'm not talking too soon again. Found this trailer yesterday. Called them up and even though they are 3 hours away, it ended up being the same people my folks bought a pickup from about 2 years ago. Small world! 18' interstate. Not as nice inside as the last one, but I think interstates are better trailers. Anyway, I am picking it up this afternoon for 2575. You can see where the floor is rolled a little in the front and she said that they blew a tire on either side at different times so there are cracks in the floor. I plan to replace at least a portion of the floor (whatever it needs, I'll see when I get it) and put some fresh paint inside and take the stickers off the outside as well as build myself a helmet shelf, coat rack and a guide in the front for the skis with a place to put oil and other fluids on the floor in the front of the v. Brand new tires and comes with a spare. I think this was the better deal anyway, screw the guy that backed out!!!

After a little love, this is what it looks like. Definitely not anywhere near some of you guys but It's nice to have an enclosed to haul the sleds in! Replaced the entire floor and wire wheeled/painted the entire frame as well as the floor and repainted the walls

Nice job! Amazing what a little love will do!

Between that and getting the wiring straightened out, I had some time in it!

I look at some of these other trailer builds and sometimes think I need to add heat and benches and fancy stuff but then I wonder when I would use it all! When we got our first enclosed we were just happy to not have to mess with wet covers and watching our sleds get drowned in road grime. We also found that putting the sleds in warm and closing the doors would warm up the inside enough to get some (maybe not all) of the snow out of the skids.

Honestly, an RV type forced air furnace can be installed for very little money, if you hunt around for the right priced furnace and do the work yourself. I use a propane bottle mounted heater while I'm in mine, but you cannot use it without venting, and the heat is a bit directional, but it works well for the money (<$100). I plan to add a 42K Atwood or Suburban RV furnace, but haven't found the time yet.

hope I'm not out of line here. your're trailer is great and enclosed is so nice when it's cold out. when you're ready we'd love to help you get your gear off the floor. we have helmet, boot and clothing racks. check us out at Norracks.com and email what you need to norracks@live.com. we have plenty of yearend closeouts.

Looks like you have some nice stuff! I'm more of a build it yourself on stuff that I can. THanks for the offer though!

That looks like a nice trailer. Word of caution about pulling the decals off of the aluminum skin, take your time, don't use an eraser wheel on the aluminum and don't expect to be able to polish out the "stripe" left behind.
If it bugs you to see the shadow I'd think about a simple vinyl stripe in its place. Black or your favorite sled color or something.
