Help - Buddy's sled not running right!

Was out riding last Friday and my buddies 2011 Pro 800 had some issues. First, about halfway through the day the reverse quit working. Then he had to tow someone elses sled about 5 miles back to the trailer. It was all on the trail and mainly flat. He said the temp got up to aout 165 at the most. We were using a "tow buddy" so there was vey little resistance from the pulled sled. Once we dropped off the busted sled, his started running bad. Big hesitation off the start, then surged on and off. Basically not ridable. I'm wondering if the two are related somehow. He's not very mechanical, and I thought i'd try to help him out. Any suggestions?

Probably not the issue, but we had issues with reverse not working and some other runabilty problems and it turned out to be a corroded ground at the front bumper. Bumper got bent so we replaced it and cleaned up the connection, never had another problem. Figure its worth mentioning since its free and easy to check.

Reverse issues are often related to the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). There's a thread on how to adjust and how to build a tool for the work. TPS problems are common on the Pro's and IQ's. My buddies sled barely ran with that issue.

Nothing happns when you hit the reverse button. It worked early in the day then quit. I'll chek the tps, i have tester for my dragon. I can also check that ground, he replaced the bumper last season so I don't know if he got it hooked up right. Anything else? I'm no expert but I can probably fix anything it might need.

you need an ohm meter but check the stator, especially the pickups..I have had issues like you described that were due to a pickup (trigger) on the stator......

Had that same problem one day last January in Cooke. Was lots of powder. Basicall everything was real wet. I tried everything Even disconnected reverse switch but it would not go into reverse. Parked sled inside that night to dry off good and never had the problem again. Something got wet.
