Help: BOSS Seat Install

Ok, maybe I am just being dumb about this. I have the simple installation instructions that came with my new seat, and I have spent too long trying to find more info at the BOSS site and on here.

I have a Yamaha Proaction chassis sled which has the 2 threaded posts in the back. On the stock seat they line up with the trunk and nuts are installed inside the trunk to hold the rear of the seat down.

The BOSS seat says to use the velcro strips that came with it, and snaps front and back that also were to come with it. I only received 2 snaps, and the seat only has snaps on the front.

  • How does the rear of the seat get held in place? The velcro doesn't seem like enough for the rear.
  • Are you supposed to take the threaded posts off the sled (drill out rivet)? (they line up outside the BOSS seat)
  • Has anybody had any problems with the seat coming off, or slipping?

I just put a boss on my m1,i took the original mounting posts off the tunnel after i used them to line up the seat..to center it on the tunnell..heat the tunnell up with a heat gun or wifes hair dryer and allign the velcro on the tunnel to matsch seat...its quite simple and yes the velcro holds really well..:beer; make sure to pull the straps down firmly then drill the snap hole....

Put one on my m8. Was thinking the same thing. Only 2 snaps. Finally thought just do it. Heated the tunnel up, drilled holes for the snaps and slapped it on. I left the original mounts on-just in case I wanna put the old seat back on. Put a few miles on and seat seems solid.:)

yea..instructions for my m say four snaps..but only two frt...works fine with the two snaps and velcro....i pulled on the ears pretty good to get some tension on the snaps...velcro you can always easily redo/replace..

Me to. Looked for too long trying to figure out the 4 snap thing. I only have 2 and when I accepted the obvious and put it together it was super easy.

They used to have four snps but found they could save weight by eliminating two snaps. The velcro holds waaaay better than I thought it would.

ding on my viper boss seat, it had snaps at the front and rear (one on each side front and rear) than a big wide heavy duty velcro strip on each side down the length of the seat. there was also a loop on the front of the seat that went over the fuel tank neck. i had the flat top (not the high rise flatop). i had to remove the rear stock seat mount posts to let the seat set flat in the rear.

need some pics to help further. the velcro could be strong enough to hold the seat on for the most part. ski

You didn't see mine falling off when flying back to Muni, did you? Had to say it Ding LOL! I cleaned the tunnel with a scotch brite pad and contact cleaner. Marked the center of the tunnel and the center of the seat in the rear. Hooked the loop over the gas fill , lifted the seat and heated the tunnel with a hair dryer. Peeled the masking and set it down. Sat my fat arse on it for a few minutes and then installed the snaps. Never had any problems with it. I know I told everyone it was the best money I ever spent on the ol' Viper. Oh yeah, drill the rivets and remove the mounting studs. Shoulda' said that first!!

Thanks guys, got it done and spent some seat time on it this last week. I really like it, but man is it firm. Must be made for aheavier guy. It takes the bumps suprisingly well for how firm it is, but it did kick me off a few times off-trail. I just have to get used to it I guess. With the '09 skid, and the seat change I am having to relearn to ride off-trail.
