HELP!!!!!02 mt cat 800 efi cutting out and trouble starting!!!

ok.

bought this sled 3 years ago and have always had the same problem of the sled cutting out when you hit the throttle.....mainly when the engine isnt warmed up all the way. then it would stop as soon as the engine warmed up. any input on how to fix this would be appreciated.. anyways....i went to get my sled out today for the first time this season. the sled wouldnt start. i checked the plugs and i had spark and was getting some gas to them. finally i put a little gas in each cylinder and it fired right up. the sled sat for about 4 hours in a heated garage....went to go for a ride and the sled would not start again.... every pull it would fire and than quit. finally after about 20 pulls it finally kept itself running. i'd sure like any input on this.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try and put some heat in the tank. The efis are really picky with a little bit of water in the tank. Try and tap on the injectors if it has been sitting all summer they could be locked shut possisbly.

Play with the kill switch and the throttle flipper, either of these can cause problems. Could also be a bad temp sensor, but a lot of these are the kill switch going bad.

I just reread your post. Did you mean it quit cutting out once it warmed up or it quit? If it ran fine after warm up it is probably either the water temp. sensor or the air temp sensor. They both adjust your fuel flow.

I don’t have an answer for you but I’ve had similar problems with my 02 as well after it was warmed up and running for a time if you just shut it off than took off again right a way it would cut out like that but just for a bit I just started letting it run for a minute before taking off and it seemed to be fine with that. Last year just before our trip it started doing kind of like what you’re talking about now after it is up to temp if I shut if off it won’t start up again. I have to leave the key off pull it over three times turn the key on and pull it over again and it will start but I will have to feather the throttle a little for 10 or so seconds than it will idle no problems. I called a dealer back here when we got out west and they said to replace the fuel filters in the tank first tried that last weekend and I still have the same problem.

Sorry I’m no help kind of looking for an answer to this issue as well. If I figure it out I will post something back here.

might be your fuel pump they are notorious for that my buddy had to put 2 in his and ive already had to put 1 in mine. Also it might be your power valves/cables.

Check the smart valves in the tank. Pull them out and clean them and make sure they are not collapsed. If they are black I think Cat updated them with blue ones??

Coil could be bad?

you need to put fuel stablizer in it over the summer
