Helmet Q..but this ones different

What makes a sled helmet different than a motorcross helmet? Is it just interior padding for warmth or something? Breath deflectors?

I like most styling of MX helmets in comparison (just colours and whatnot, more variety) and most are cheaper than sled helmets. Also, who makes helmets specific to snomobiling (besides KLIM, HJC)??

Fill me in as im confused.

i figure thats fine as I see tons of people wearing open face / goggle combos. Not all of them are sled helmets im sure...are they warm enough? I wear a balaclava underneath anyways...

I have always been a full faced MX helmet user.
I have looked at other "snowmobile helmets" and have never been impressed.

I have never had an issue being cold as long as I wear a balaclava (sp) on cold days... The key is to find one that fits good, is comfortable, and works well with a good double lens snow goggle.

I believe he is asking the difference between a MX helmet, and a open face "MX style" built for snow.

To answer you question I believe it is just the breath deflector.

There is absolutely nothing that makes a snow helmet different than a MX helmet other than a breath guard. Manufacturers do nothing to increase warmth or any other features that set it apart. Even the full face helmets are just a street helmet with a dual pane shield and a breath guard.

Personally, I like the fly helmets.

You don't need to buy a 10 dollar breath deflector! Wear your balaclava and you will be good to go.
