Hells Canyon Sport Fishing

S
Any fishing fanatics out there? I own Hells Canyon Sport Fishing in Lewiston, Idaho and wanted to send you all a link to my web site. We offer fishing for Steelhead, Salmon, Sturgeon, Walleye and Smallmouth on the Columbia, Snake and Clearwater rivers. We run large open jet boats and run some of the greatest white water in the country in Hells Canyon! http://www.hellscanyonsportfishing.com
I have had a great time on this site the last couple years and just thought I would send this out and maybe gain some interest from some of my fellow sledders. If any one is looking for a killer fishing trip we are going to have a great Spring Salmon run this May and June In the Clearwater River. Prices are $225 per person per day, lodging packages are also avilable.

I spend most of my free time either sledding, fishing or hunting. Salmon steelhead, trout and lately, sturgeon are my favorite targets. I grew up on the headwaters of the Salmon River so I grew up fishing for these pretty much out my back door. We hit the upper Snake for most of our Sturgeon Fishing because it it much closer, although I hear that you need to hit the Frasier River if you want any better Sturgeon fishing than Hells Canyon.

You run some pretty prime areas. Do any chucker hunting up in the canyons?

Looks like a great site I spend a lot of time sturgeon fishing between cj strike and bliss dam as well as catching salmon and steelhead after you guys get done with them over in Stanley and salmon :beer;

You bet, we offer cast and blast trips in September and October. The Chukar population has been low the last couple years making hunting tougher in the canyon. The sturgeon fishing in Hells Canyon is excellent. I seem to have my best luck in late May-Early July before the water temp gets in the high 60's. Have you guys ever tried fishing Spring Chinook? These got to be one of the best fish to catch and EAT!:)

There is no better fish to catch than spring chinook. You can tie 4 or 5 slimy steelhead on to one salmon and the salmon would pull them around like they were guppys. Also much better eating because they don't have to spend 3 months in the river waiting for the ice to go out to spawn. Where we fish they have an additional 300 or so miles on them from where you catch them and the steelhead get pretty thin by then. The salmon are much fresher fish.

On the upper Salmon we never used to have a season. It was pretty cool for me becasue I had the river pretty much to myself. Tie on a big ol' Mepps and you were pretty much guarenteed to have a salmon. We had a good season last year, but the problem was that high water never allowed us to fish much until almost the 1st of July. By that time, the quota was almost filled up. We only really got 4 or 5 days of good fishing until the season was closed.

Adrenline Junkey, are you here in the Treasure Valley? It looks like you pretty much have the same gameplan as I do when it comes to fishing. It looks like I will be headed up to the Salmon River (parents still live in Clayton) for some steelhead fishing this weekend and/or the next.

We have had the same issue up in Custer County also. The hunting was the best I have ever seen it 4 or 5 years ago, but here in the last 2, you really had to put in the miles to find the little bastards. That kind of sucked because I usually use the chukar season as an excuse to get in shape for deer/elk season. This last year I was still fat and out-of shape when elk season rolled around. Nothing whips your arse into shape like chasing chuckar.

I'm in the magic valley about 35 miles east of twin falls but its only a short drive as long as galena summit doesn't give ya too much trouble. Whats the report up there for this weekend? I always had my best luck the week of Easter

Farking Cold! Stanely was -22 this morning and the river is trying to freeze back over. However, Deadwater went out about a week and a half ago, and there were quite a few that made it upriver before it froze over last fall. Pops has caught 4 or 5 this winter up around the Clayton area and one of my buddies hit Ellis last weekend and caught 7. This blast of cold air may slow things down a bit, however. Once it warms up, Game On!

There are a lot of fish this year, and hopefully this economy slows down some of the Killer Bs. It gets old when you have to bring your own rock to stand on. If not, I may have to go up during the week, now that I am back in Idaho.

And driving through Ketchum usually give me more trouble than Galena. Man, I hate that place.

that looks like it would be a blast. i do alot of salmon fishing on the great lakes and they are by far my favorite to fish.

Burrrr looks like its picking up then I just hope it doesn't turn super warm and its over faster than it began. Oh i hear ya done some work in ketchum and sun valley and i try to avoid it as much as possible.

The warmer temps are not too bad, so long as we continue to get the cool nights. That will usually check the runoff from the low snow. It may get a little murky at the end of the day, but in the morning, the river is usually back to clear.

If we get a night or two above freezing, that is when things get ugly. That is the way it was 2 years ago. We had our high water at the end of March and screwed the whole season up for me.

Greg cain is a friend of mine and a great professional. Did you fish with him at Heller bar? I have a federal use permit and guide in the upper section of the Snake(Hells Canyon) and he runs his trips near Hells Bar. I am totally excited about this up and coming springer season. We will be fishing the Columbia first the end of April and then the Clearwater in May and June. But first we will be on a trophy hunt for MONSTER WALLEYE! In a couple weeks me and my guides will head to the Mid-Columbia near Umatilla, Oregon to guide for trophy walleye. Walleye over 10 lbs are not uncommon. Here are are few pics for you walleye heads to drool over! All these fish are 14-16lbs. Our biggest to date - 18.75lbs!
