I also had BCBS and was very happy with it. I had two mx crashes that sent me to the hospital via that spendy little buggy and a number of visits to the ER due to numerous other mx crashes that were blamed on something else. My premium went up $9 from when I started the policy at age 18 and dropped it at age 24 when my waiting period was over with my current employer and got picked up with their plan. What pisses me off is my GF’s insurance is absolute horse sh*t!! She works as a RN for one of the wealthiest hospitals in the nation that was just given $600 million from a local entrepreneur and their coverage is downright pathetic. It’s a self funded plan and her monthly premium is $254 for a $1200 deductable and $3000 max out of pocket and to get those rates you have to be treated at that hospital. Anything outside their coverage “zone” which is that hospital is $2000 deduct with $5000 max out of pocket and capped at $100K. So if you’re on vacation and get into some type of serious accident you’re pretty much screwed. That premium only covers health care, preventative and medication. Any life insurance, dental, eye, short or long term, ect is extra. My employer who isn’t even related to the health care industry and doesn’t bring in the $ like her employers does, is also self funded. My premium is $45 a mo which also includes dental and eye converge, short and long term disability, a $50k life insurance policy and an additional travel life insurance policy as well as policy if something were to happen while overseas. Just goes to show how money greedy hospitals are, can’t even give decent coverage to their own employees if treated within their own walls.
