Health Insurance options for the un-insured??

from what i know, if you know you're going to be incurring some medical expenses, go with a PPO - standard meet your deductible and then pay your 20%. on the other hand, an hsa is usually less expensive and meant for healthy individuals who don't plan on spending a lot of time at the dr.

not an expert, sorry.

Thanks for the response.........not looking for experts:face-icon-small-hap
Just thoughts and insight on what others are doing out there. I figure there are probably lots of self-employed types or small business guys out there that are having to provide their own insurance???

I have always been employed where my employer provided the benefits........and my last job was dang good ones too. First time I have ever been looking and kind of baffled at what's out there.

Can't say i've ever been into the whole health care reform thing too much, but I am paying much closer attention now.:face-icon-small-con

I just went with an HSA with a 10K deductible. We pay $190 a month and I have an accident rider that I pay another $67 a month that covers accidents with a $100 deductible and pays up to 10k (to meet my other deductible). Last few years we have been paying $500-$600 a month for a ppo type plan. We did the math and by the time we had paid premiums, deductibles, copays and the 20% it is much, much cheaper to got this new route. Even when paying for our 3 boys random doctors visits it is still cheaper. If you are interested in learning more, I can set you up with an agent who can explain things better than I can.

I am a health insurance agent in ut. This is just my opinion. What I would do if I were you is get a high deductible plan non HSA say 5000. Then get a gap plan CAIC. Trans America. AFLAC. ALL State work place whatever, then get a smaller whole life or index fund life insurance policy that builds cash value quickly that you can access the funds easy if you need to meet your deductible. This will eliminate the need for the HSA and gives you the co pay office visit that wives like. Depending on the needs of your family and the set up of this type of strategy you can lower your health expenses quite a bit and have better coverage in most cases. Plus you leverage your health dollar to cover life and in some cases LTC.
