Headlight Assembly removal

Just took out the headlights on my 05 summit 800. They broke in my last little wreck so i just pulled the whole assembly out. Will this effect any of the electronics of the sled? does anything need to be done besides just unplugging the headlights and taking it out? Also is there some aftermarket vents to put in its place or something to fill the headlight holes in the hood that look good and keep the snow out? Thanks in advance.

need to

when i was racin we would add a set of hand warmes to the light plug ins. this would allow the power that the stater produces to get used, if you dont evently your stater will go tits up on you..... you can tape the hand warmers to anything outa the way.....hope this helps....

iv read a lot about this an some seem to think it will affect the electronics, which it probably does, i suppose, but I removed the headlight, gauge assembly, hand warmers, tail light, and any other wiring/electronics that weren't necessary ;), and haven't had any problems. sled is an 01 summit

Me too. no headlight, tailight, speedo, etc. and no problems. I run an EGT that sucks up some of the juice but not as much compared to what I took off. I've heard this before and wondered where people get this idea that the stator burns out. Has this actually been verified or is this some old wives tale that someone made up? I guess I'm basing my theory that the extra power just goes to your coil and spark plugs and gets used up there since your motor consumes electricity to fire the plugs.

Sounds like there isn't too much need for concern? Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. So any good ideas how to fill those wholes in the hood for the headlights? Maybe a vent kit or some cool looking substitute?

i think there are kits (vents) that fit right into the stock holes for the speedo/tach. I can't say for sure who makes them, but the two i got looked to be about the same size (4"ish dia.) as the original holes an were the very fine screen material. but i'm not for sure if they actually just "pop" into place as i put them in my lexan hood? somebody's got to know who makes them...
