All the lodges seem to be full. We are heading out on the 26th. Where should we stay that has the shortest trailering drive to get to the riding? We have never been to the horns before, coming from Iowa.

If all the lodges are full up top ????? Did you try hi country its a ride in lodge but it is closest to the good riding anyways. If you stay off the mountain I would unload at bear lodge and head west down the hwy (trail) you will then just peel off where ever you see some nice areas.... Lots of nice open areas when the snow is good and some fresh!

Have you checked at Elk View, Bear Lodge and Arrowheard? I would guess that you could at least get a room at arrowhead, but ft none of those have room check ouy wyoming high country located down 14a, i think the owner of it is on here from time to time. If you cant stay at any of those you might as well stay in sheridan more options and better food and cheaper fuel the drive would be less than an hour depending on the roads

there is also a small hotel in Ranchester its another 15 miles closer then Sheridan to the mtns, but there is no where to eat . best if you just stay in Sheridan its about a 45 min drive to bear-lodge from Sheridan. gas in Sheridan is about a dollar plus cheaper then the lodges so its almost enough right there to stay in Sheridan, if you have 4 plus sleds that need gas every day.

the north side coming from lovell is never to bad either its usually the best riding anyways but u have to watch out for the windblown snow its the deepest on this side 90% of the time

There are a few of us from Huron Heading out Friday. I made reservations at bear lodge. They said there was 8 to 12 inches around the lodge and about 50 inches in areas up the trail. They said it was snowing when I called today and there was a chance of snow every day this week. I think she said Thursday was the chance for the most....Hope this helps

We are heading out there the same time. See you at the lodge.

We are going to be stuck staying in Ranchester. The lodges are all full unless you only need one or two rooms.

Don't flame me for this but...

I really do enjoy riding in the Bighorns. I've stayed at all three lodges and have enjoyed them alot. But, I would not put any faith into the snow reports from talking to the employees in the lodge over the phone. It's happened to me before and a few other's I know..."It's snowing right now, the snow is great...we have X amount of inches and it's suppose to snow all week." Let me tell you this, it wasn't even close to what we were told. Now is this the case this year? Maybe, maybe not. Nothing against the lodges as Rick and his family are great people and do a wonderful job up there for us sledders, I just don't want anyone to be dissapointed.

I agree with ^ I called Bear lodge and they said theres 50+ inches up top and its the best winter theyve seen for this time of year. Yet every snotel and person I talk to says theres sno but its scarce. I know 50 inches is nothing to great but its better then scarce.

I called a couple of dealerships and they said it was decent. Not great by anymeans but decent for what I am looking for. I just want to put some miles on my new sled and break it in before we head to revelstoke....One of the only places I could find that said there was ok ridding....Unless you want to head way south in Colorado.

Snow is decent for this time of year we have been riding since november and have found great snow every time you just have to know where to look.

Also instead of calling the lodges actually pay for a premium membership on this site so you can read the sections on snowreports for the areas you want to ride

YOU GO RIDING IN REVELSTOKE? ALL I EVER HEAR ABOUT IS HOW PEOPLE GET THEIR STUFF STOLEN WHEN THEY ARE UP THERE JUST WANTED TO HEAR THE REAL STORY FROM A DAKOTA BOY
