Header wrap on exhaust pipe

How many people are using the stock exhaust hear shield on turbo set up? Who's using the fiberglass headed wrap? I tried header wrap and it seems like it puts off an awful lot of fiberglass dust under hood after each ride... Just wondering what people are doing thanks.

I wrapped mine. Used the DEI, don't remember if that's the exact brand, silicone sealer/paint. Lots of coats. I don't seem to have any glass in mine.

Good luck! Have lots of patience and strong hands to pull. I hung my pipe in the shop. That worked best for me.

i tried to wrape a pipe with the two inch wide wrap and it seemed to always get a ripple going in it. so the second time i tried i used one inch wide and the adhesize they sold with the. Had a problem with it coming off at the stinger end. had to clamp it a little better and it seems to work ok

I wrapped mine, I think the best way is to soak the wrap in a bucket of water. Wrap the pipe as tight as you possibly can. Strong hands and having someone there to hold tension on the wrap so you can take a couple of breaks. Then put a big hose clamp on it to keep it tight, then I set it next to woodstove to dry. Once it is completely dry I put about 5 coats of the spray paint that is for doing this.

I was wondering if anyone painted the wrap. I'll try this thanks for the input! Did you use 2" wide wrap?

yes I did, I have one spot on the bottom there is a little wrinkle. I used safety wire in a bunch of spots to locked down the wrap. Once, I painted it, you couldn't see the wire anymore.

Mine is tied at each end with wire twisted. I painted it with barbecue grill paint. If it starts fading I hit it with a light coat while warm. This bakes on the paint and the pipe feels cast like. Very durable this way.

i used the 2" wide wrap as well, but i folded it in half when getting to the bendy parts of the pipe to help control the wrinkles. i then hung it for a couple of days in the shed ( keep in mind this was July) to dry out. once dry, i hit it with coats of VHT header paint to keep the fibreglass dust down.
started with a stainless steel zip tie, worked in some SS bailing wire in a few key places to hold stuff together and finished with a stainless zip tie. seems to be holding together pretty good with no rub throughs or unwraps so far.

Same comments as above:
-For a two stroke pipe 1" wide works best, but does cost a little more.
-installing wet and tight is key(having a second person there to help is nice, you will be wore out by the time you are done from all the stretching)
-Use many coats of the sealer to keep everything in place.
-use lots of ss baling wire or ss zip ties to keep everything tight.

I thought about using the 1 in stuff but I ended up letting my helper cut small slits in where the real curved areas. It came out nice and tight all the way around.

i wrapped mine with the same stuff as Outlaw Addict...and its a MUST to soak in water before install or it will never stay in place.

i painted my pipe with the BBQ paint first, then wrapped with header wrap. use a few hose clamps to secure in place as well as safety wire if you have access to it.

heres my 06 rmk 900 turbo wrapped...the wrap is black, just looks grey with the flash on.

i used the dei lava wrap? whatever the eff it was i cant remember anymore. didnt need to soak wrapped real easy then just clamped the ends and ran safety wire a few times around from one end to the other.. i like the look of this better than the black or white too haha

Will a wrapped pipe require different tuning then the stock set up? I'd assume it will hold heat better but not sure if it will change the tune.

In my experience it will not. If anything, it makes the tune more consistent, as pipe temps do not fluctuate as drastically. Pipe temp plays a huge rule in what RPM the powerband is at.

wrap

My sled isnt a turbo but I did wrap my slp pipe with the DEI titanium/lava wrap, like said above, you dont have to get it wet & you dont have to apply the paint, just put it on as is. Mine is like guidoexpress's, I have 4 clamps holding it in place. I left my pipe on my sled when I wrapped it, that made it easy. I initially wrapped it off my sled, & that was an epic fail. Ill post a pic in the next few days.

For you guys that have wrapped your pipes are you seeing cooler temps under the hood? How did it change the exhaust tone? Just curious
