Thursday's Update---more pics ++

Well tonite I'm bunking at the Gold Country Inn at Elko,NV. Nice room for only $67.
Last nite , finally got to BS with Kurt at the GW, in "West." We solved a number of world and enviro problems, as well as sno forums. Kurt is not happy with the new forum, and looking at alternatives.

Woke up this morn to 14 Deg, and 2+ inches of snow that fell wet, then froze. Pic attached.

Also a couple from the Jellystone Park.

The APRS tracking went better today, once I got clear of the mountains, down by Ashton.Things look pretty quiet around IP, Last Chance, and beyond.

Drove to Twin Falls, then south on 93 to I-80. Lots of "environment", not much else. Busy 2-lane road though.

Tomorrow eve I'll be at my son's place, only 414 more miles! Will drive thru Lake Tahoe area to inspect the area, and he is on the western side of the mountain range from there.

Had to stop at Big Springs this morning and take a couple no-snow pics. Have several pics of the springs in winter. A favorite snowmobile stop to see trout swimming by the bridge. Water is always 52* and flowing.

Was going to take a few more but the camera battery went dead.

Looking at Brainerd area webcams, looks like it has been chilly there. Low 70's here.

I'm still at the no-tell-motel in Placerville,CA, LOL. Got to my son's place Friday eve, for first time.

Saturday we drove to Lafayette,CA, outside San Fransicko and had a great day with some long lost cousins we always knew about, but didn't know where they lived......until AlGore invented the internet.

Looked at lots of ancient family photo's going back almost 100 years. I was able to provide names and info on many. They had no idea what-was-what, but always kept them.

Placerville is a very busy area, in the heart of the old Sutters Mill Cal goldrush. The town is on the only major highway between SanFran and Lake Tahoe.

Talk about your weekend travel traffic!! Seems like everybody here drives these twisty mountain roads w/foot to the floor.
I call it "combat driving." Sorta like I-494,694, 35W in Mpls/St.P only an order of magnitude worse!
Or another analogy, would be like NASCAR, very fast, and follow dangerously close.

Maybe going to look at old gold mines today, and take the grand daughter (2) for a pony ride at an apple orchard place.

On the way here, I swung through Virginia City,NV, home of the Comstock mine, and where the Bonanza TV show was patterned after.
Then drove past Lake Tahoe to Placerville. About 50 miles of mountain road.

Tahoe, I'm thinking, is a bit smaller than Mille Lacs, but is 1,700 feet deep!! in places.

So-oooo I'll be in CA all week, heading back next Sunday/Monday??

We used to go Virginia City every year. What a blast for kids and adults. Did you check out the Bucket of Blood Saloon. Sounds like you are having a great trip.

I've heard about it Mule, but have tried to follow a link from people I know that have asked me to check their posting on there, but I don't find it very interesting.

I only had 1-hour to spend there, but I saw enough to get the flavor. If time permits, I could swing thru there again on the way home next week.
But there's plenty of "old towns" in the Placerville area, just not as famous as VC,NV.
