Headed out to tear 5ft of fresh

Roo, crown 7, and I are headed up right now to catch are first 5 ft of fresh powder day this year. Post some pics tonight, hope the hawks are up for the task. Should be a hard day at work for the mcc wrecking crew!!

Damn you guys... I'd kill you both right there. Aren't you working on 5' snowfall week days !!!

I'm still waiting for that 5' day to come... has to happen on a week end though...

Post the pics, I want to see how the 550 & 800 136" handled the super deeeep stuff....

Each got stuck one or two times

What a day! We played for hrs. Thru the trees and over lots of powder mounds. I think the 550 goes as well as mine in the deep. Just slower, headed back up on Friday I think. Supposed to get another few feet tonight and tomorrow, and the next night and the next night, and this weekend and next week, you get my point!!!

Ya' but where did that funny looking....

Where did that funny looking statue with the birds on it come from??

Just kidding Roo.
So how was the 550 in the deep?

And how is the project going.
Still sucks that i cant ride the hawk yet.

But the Baja trip is a month away.:D

machine works really well, until you get to a hill! clutch engages at 2800 rpm
so you can just tractor around without trenching. had an awesome day!

the project is in the works, got alot of parts, but still trying to find a clutch. little low on fundage, will probally scrape something together and just buy new if I can't find a deal on a good used. diamond drive should be here by end of week. will be able to get a better idea of motor /fork/drive placement.

Roo

The bird man of Baker.. thats cool.. you guys need to head up this way for some Gallagher action. Show some of the 2skiers down south what you can do.
most havent even seen a hawk in its natural element.
doors open..

I can totally see the 136" 550F Hawk to "tractor" awesome in the deep stuff.
Have you weight your Hawk Roo, should be around 350-360# doesn't it ?

Any plans on souping up some stuff to get to the 100HP mark ? Did you finally reworked the stigner on that 503 Jaws Pipe ?

have not put it on a scale, really havn't lost alot of weight 10-12 pounds ? would still like to know how much all these machines weigh. snowest weighed an 800 at the powder challenge 08 claimed 512 wet.
have really been turned off of performance mods to the 550 or the 503. have talked to many people that have gone down that road, all have got the same result 80-90 horse and overheating issues! will definatly mod pipe this summer and go with an cat roller. rode ozzydog's 503 a few weekends ago, with cat clutch. machine rips!!!! you can still tell mine has more h.p. but his puts it to the snow, upshifts much faster, he's putting on p-85 primary right now can't wait to try it when he's done.

Fanner clutching interrogations...

Ozzydog, what's the helix in your Cat secondary ? 121 or 136 track ? Didn't pay attention at Hawkfest...

Roo, is your hawk holding good RPM in deep snow ? Last ride was a pretty good one to test that out !!!

I'm thinking that the 50/40 helix might be abit steep for the 503/550 under our conditions (mountain & decently deep snow), I mean, damn, that's what 800 comes with. 50/40 will work awesome in the trail though. Of course 121 track isn't hard to spin so 50-40 does make sense, but... you've got a 136. And if you say "goes well until I get to a hill" maybe your secondary transfers too much torque to the primary/motor so (beside going for the next stiffer spring) I'd suggest to try the same helix angle as Ozzydog as a first try maybe... but I'm thinking about going down to straight 42 or 44 helix... The fact is, a 503 or 550 won't go super fast (trackspeedwise) and won't allow or won't be able to pull the belt deep enough in the secondary to use the full helix capacity, so you're probably only using about the first half of the helix. So you're maybe using from 50 degrees to 45 degrees. Going down to straight 44 or straignt 42 doesn't sound like a too bad idea to me for these fanners. What's sad about these helix is they're expensive (about 100$)... maybe borrow one from somebody... who did "some clutching" on his sled... pain in the but to get these parts & store them until you're done...

Actualy I wanted to try a straight 44 the other day but too many problems to take care of that day so it ended up remaining in my back pack. Sledr2 told me at Hawkfest that he's got a straight 44 in his Kawahaki...

Of course, the salad bowl primary would have to go as well for a TRA !

Ozzfest!

If you remember Harley went to Lolo a few weeks earlier than us all for his own Fest with the MT. boys, Hawk Fest was too close to the delivery day for his new daughter.

It was two weeks ago Friday when Roo tested his Cat sec. at Baker, you know the video Cailen posted with the Off Road Rider's 2Moto, and Tim's Explorer.

Ozzydog's Hawk is that really pretty orange one!

Oh I'm mixing Harley with another guy... damn what's your name again buddy ? Is it Peter ?

You were right beside me saturday night at Hawkfest when we got through the crown bottle with all the guys...

all mixed up!

I think I was the only one in the room with a fanner, jeff. I guess if you drive ?????? hours, ride your a$$ off for a day, dig into half gallon of crown and look forward to the drive home the next day you could get a little mixed up!the 550 holds good rpm in the deep. it really shines
tractoring= slow speedwhen you run at lower rpms using the torque of the fanner, getting going is also really easy with the
low engagement primary 100/290. had alot harder time when it came to the hills, everyone did WE ARE TALKING 4 PLUS FEET
OF GOOD OLD WASHINGTON POWDER/WET CONCRETE!! all in all, really happy with my machine.
going to ride out the season the way it is, get the clutching changed up this summer. THESE HAWKS ROCK!!!
