head porting & boost

I am building my first boosted sled. I run at or near sea level and hope to run around 10lbs boost on an Apex. After a bit of research I have decided to run Carillo rod with JE low compression pistons. My question is this. How much is there to be gained from head porting on this engine at these boost levels? How high could I go with the boost with these mods and still be safe on pump gas 91 octane.. Looking to build the strongest pump gas package without having to run meth or octane boosters.

Thx Dan

No need for porting at that level. Most guys around 14-15 psi with just a headshim and premium fuel. This is with Mcx turbosystems

you dont really need the rods & pistons at 10 lbs boost & porting will make a difference but you will notice it more the more you turn it up.stock rods & pistons are good to 15-17lbs with shim you would need a bit of race fuel at sea level though

Thx for the info.. I know the rods and pistons may be a bit of overkill for this boost level but the engine is in need of pistons and a head due to dropping a valve so I'm going to build it to be able to crank the boost up higher later on.. I just wanted to know what kind of hp gain the head porting would make at 10lbs boost. Huricane Performance will port it for $1000.00 claiming pretty big gains on a boosted motor. Was hoping someone that has had the work done could confirm this works on an Apex..
Thx Dan

I am interested in that question as well but have not searched on it until this motor goes down. Then she will get built! I port and polish most any motor I have apart and you are wise to put good pistons and rods in.
Try a search or post over on http://www.ty4stroke.com/index.php
Great knowledge base over there. As well as a few wrong answers like any forum :face-icon-small-win

talk to nm on here or ezymoney both run ported boosted apexs & they are both scary fast not much will touch them it made a big diff on my nytro as well.lakeside did mine nm & ezys
