Did anyone have the same problem as me with the heavy duty skid plate's holes not even being close to lining up? How did everyone fix that? Drill new holes?

Mine were all close, I used 1/4" air ratchet to start the screws.

When I made mine I marked the holes but had to drill them bigger to get the play to put the screws in. Make sure you get all of the screws started before you tighten them down.

Cheers Don.

What the hell kind of skid plate is that? Is it steel? Send that back and get a plastic one. When you hit a rock with the plastic one it will absorb the impact and slide over it. That thing will hang up and transfer the energy to your bulkhead.

I returned my smaller original Arctic cat M series skid plate before installing it and yesterday my new huge heavy duty skid plate arrived.

I decided to go with the larger one because my sled only has a few hundred miles on it yet, there were huge gouges in the plastic directly under the clutches. That scared me into ponying up for the larger skid plate.

I'll see if I can get a good weight on the skid plate too.

document your install

Frosty -

I'm in the same boat. Still got the older cat skid plate I got on ebay I haven't installed yet, and I'm thinking about changing out to the big one. Will you please document with some pics your install? I'm sure you are going to attach it with belly pan screws, right? - not rivets. We all would appreciate knowing the weight - thanks

Ok, my documentation sucked. My apologies.

I did weigh the heavy duty skid plate. It weighed 7 lbs and is probably closer to 8 by the time you add the hardware. Yet, now I feel like the underside of my sled is wearing a helmet.:beer;

Most of the holed lined up fairly close. I didn't have to redrill anything. A couple of fasteners were too short to reach (the very back outer ones) and I had to use longer screws than were provided. I also added a couple more bolts to either side of the nose of the sled to pull the skid plate tighter. I also put a bead of black RTV between the skid plate and the sled where there was a gap.

I feel really good about having the skid plate on my sled. Especially, after I saw the huge gouges below my clutches after only a few hundred miles.
