Get rid of the "Redneck Heaven"
These shadetree swappers selling everything from SnoJet windshields to Rupp throttle cables gotta go.

I realize this was once a significant drawing card for the Haydays experience, but times have
changed. This is not what most attendees want to see.

I am not driving 200 miles to look at rusty antiquated crap. Ebay is your friend, use it.

Get the vendor area back down to a reasonable size.

Then don't go! I don't think anybody is forcing you to go, are they? My dad went for the first time last year and he enjoys looking for old sleds that are in reasonably good shape and parts for for those old sleds. That is the era he is from!

Some my like to go and get some of the old classic stuff but if they could at least put them in a seperate area then at least it would cut down on so much walking around to find what you came for!

I agree. That would be an awesome idea! I know that my dad literally walked up and down EVERY row, but he wanted to go to Hay Days forever and that is why he was there! I'm not sure if we will ever get to go back since we live way out west!

I'm just saying that having Redneck Heaven there is like wasting room on the SnapOn truck with Harbor Freight tools.
(kinda like putting trailer houses in the expensive subdivision near the golf course)

I am not saying I am right, it's just my thoughts on it.

I agree with the first part....I actually saw water skiis, a black and white 9" t.v. and other worthless **** like that. They need to put that somewhere else, it is getting out of control when you walk 2 isles and don't see but a dozen or so sled related items.:confused:

To me the vendor area is the good stuff...sales and good new product information.:beer;

I would like to see them get rid of all the stuff that should be at a garage sale or flea market, but then again do the math on what they charge to swap and how manyshow up to swap. CRAZY!

On a side note, for the one's that do go looking for the old stuff, the outlaw grass drags at Princton has a very large collection of old sleds and parts. It is not as big as Haydays, but you will still get wore out trying to see everything. Collectors club has some really nice relics.

haydays

I like looking for parts for my old sleds. But I don't think they need to let the people selling rugs, paintings, sinks, tubs and all that stuff in. If they do put them out back in the overflow area.

But I still plan on being there!!!

agreed, if your gonna let the crap in, at least have it's own spot way in the back...

The swapmeet section played an important role in making haydays what it is. Although it has gotten out of control. The Snowbarons charge excessively if you are an actual vendor. Yet, the swappers get in for next to nothing. If you do decide to be a vendor at haydays, everyone still assumes it's a swapmeet. It doesn't matter how good your deals are, you still have every redneck trying to barter with you. Properly run, there should be twice as many venders and half as many swappers. It would be awsome to see ALL the aftermarket companies showing off the new gear and accessories for the upcoming season.

I drive 900 miles every year one way. I agree they shouldnt be letting in guys with lawn mowers rusted cars but who decides.Last year I seen more tires & rims and trucks for sale. Thats the joy of a swap meet you dont know what you will find. The bad end of it is that my buddy had two year old sleds he couldnt get in because it was full by friday by 7:00.This is the Sturgis of snowmobiling enjoy it, someday it might not be there.

I've walked every row of the swap for the past 7 or 8 years, and the amount of sht that's totally unrelated to sleds pisses me off. It's gotten, and is getting, worse every year. I enjoy going and getting together with friends, but this is supposed to be SLED RELATED, right? If I wanted to go to a garage sale, I'd go to a garage sale. SnoBarons do a lot of good with the money they receive, don't get me wrong. But filter out the **** and don't whooer your event out for money.

The thing I don't like about it is that every year there are a lot of people, selling snowmobile related items only, that get refused because the swap area is full. They have done a good job of increasing the amount of area and narrowing the rows and parking everyone on top of each other but there are still people that get turned away while someone is inside either just to camp (several motor homes inside with nothing sitting outside of them all weekend:devil:) or people selling their used tires, kitchen sinks and neighbors' girlfriends. The first year we went we waited in line from 10pm friday night to about 5am saturday, we were like the 5 truck back from getting in. We parked in the parking lot and setup, (0 sales) and right across us in the swap area was a camper with about 5 people and they had 1 go cart sitting out for sale.

The thing I can understand is what it would take to police that... they would have to visually inspect every trailer, pickup, bus, RV etc.. that was coming in to swap and to do that they would have to open the gates up on Wed due to the amount of people. I think they are doing about the best they can do with the resources and time they have to do it. I wouldn't mind seeing reserved spots in the swap, at least that way people would know for sure if they can get in and if they don't want to book ahead of time then they know the risk.

For the size of the event, they do a good job.

That's EXACTLY what I was getting at.
Thank you.

I've been attending for about 15 years - all but a couple of them as a swapper. The amount of crap unrelated to sledding is rediculous - but as far as used tires, car parts and etc - if its good usable parts I don't have a problem - I bought a set of like new nerf bars for my Suburban for $50 last year. I've also sold a mint cond. narrowed and braced Ford 9" for a pro-street car (yes unrelated to sledding but someone said it was exactly what he needed - although he was surprised to see it there).

But, on the other hand, the guys who bring trailers into the swap completely empty so they don't have to carry parts far OR so they can buy a cheap sled and try to resell it later for more money (yes I've seen it many times) are annoying. Also the guys who drive their car in so they have a beer cooler on the property add 20 feet each to the amount I have to walk to see more parts (and yes, there are plenty of these clowns too).

Lastly, a note to other swappers: on Sunday morning if two or three cars in front of you leave MOVE YOUR CAR AHEAD. Even of you don't the guy behind you might be blocked in from the front and behind by only one car and still be left way out in the back 40 where most people won't walk to too look at 2-3 swappers. Just because you don't really care if someone looks at your remaining 70 moto-ski shell doesn't mean the guy stuck behind you doesn't care if nobody looks at his 3 2000+ sleds to sell to pay for his 2 new ones....HAS ANYONE ELSE BEEN IN THIS SPOT - I was, and the pricks in front and behind me where nowhere to be found until they showed up to leave at 2pm on Sunday.

This all being said I look forward to HayDays more than Christmas. A few more toys for my M7 are in order this year and hopefully some new Klim gear.
