Ok guys here is some information from the Island Park people, if I can get some chime in from the guys in Utah this will be a go.

Snow Hawk Fest 2010‏

Dear Tammy, Thanks for your interest in Island Park. Besides owning the HenrysForkCountry.com Web site, I also own the local newspaper, Island Park News (IslandParkNews.com) and am on the Island Park Area Chamber of Commerce's Executive Board. I will be happy to help you plan your trip to our awesome area. Island Park is a snowmobiler's paradise. There are 500 miles of trails groomed by the county's Park and Recreation Department. Trails are in the beautiful Caribou-Targhee National Forest. They range from the "business loop" that connects the area's lodges, restaurants, and service stations, to high mountain riding to open expanses that make great play areas. Popular rides go to beautiful Mesa Falls and Big Springs. Check out our chamber's Web site, islandparkchamber.org, for photos, and also my newspapers YouTube channel for videos of our area in winter. www.YouTube.com/calderagal Presidents Day weekend is also the time the local snowmobile club, the Fugowees, hosts a Fun Run that ends with a wild Bingo game that offers all kinds of neat prizes. It's also the weekend we had a vintage snowmobile event this year and I think i will be on that same weekend next year. The Island Park Recreation Area is 35 miles long by 30 miles wide, and the northern end is 14 miles from West Yellowstone, which is at the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. We have lodges and motels, and also vacation cabins that can accommodate as many as 30 people. Most accommodations are on the snowmobile trails, so it is not necessary to trailer sleds to a trailhead. Our chamber would love to work with you to ensure that you have a wonderful weekend here. I just need to know more about they types of accommodations you want, the riding you prefer to do, if you want to do a Snow Hawk demo for the community, if you need meeting rooms, etc. How many people are you planning to bring here. Also, since I think you are talking about Presidents Day weekend, you should know it's a busy one and you would want to book early. E-mail back or call me during the week at. I look forward to talking with you.

I kept her name and information private so that no one spams her...

i thought it was going to be in Logan Ut,,,,, that all sounds nice, but most people with hawks hate trail riding from what i had heard from last hawkfest. but not sure how much big mountian riding is close either. cant wait to hear local people chime in.

on another note,,,, my tree season has been crazy this year so sorry i havnt been around much on here, i am sooooo busy!!! cant wait for next winter already!

be safe

Ive done a bit of ridding around west yellowstone.. There is ample off trail riding there, lots of people ride from Island park Id to W Yellowstone I think its about a 13 mile ride?? Most riders in that area most likely Boondock so Im sure its just about everywhere.

Utah??

If the fest was in Utah, like we had all talked about Steve S and Steve W would be able to lead the group around to great areas, there is no trail riding there, it is the bomb, two riding areas about twenty miles apart, both with parking lots that would take atleast 50 trucks and you jump over the snow bank out of the lot and take off in wide open rolling hills 4-5 ft deep pow once the group traveled up into the high country it is ten -12 ft deep and big cornices and clif drops for jumping and big hills for climbing, Beaver Mtn ski area has lodging which we could probably set up ahead and it is ten miles from both riding areas, I have riding Islland park and it is cool if you want to look at animals and scenic mtns off in the distance you never actually get to ride too.

My votes for Logan

Logan has some good riding and I think that both Steve's would do a great job of getting things organized and taking us to some really fun spots.

utah?

Well if we had hawk fest here in logan utah, then we would have 6 or 7 hawk riders that now the mountains really well ( steve s, steve w, gorden b, joel d, justin s, mike h, shey b, and harley s) that could give us some epic riding. with 3 major riding areas that are within 10 miles of each other up by beaver mountain and one main riding area right in logan (proveidence canion) and they all have big parking lots that can hold a ton of trucks. And plenty of places to hotels to stay at, and some killer snow all winter. :)

Just got back in town. Was out trying a little different climate than we have here.

I'm into doing whatever I can to help out if you want to have it here in Utah.
I can help with lodging, catering, and will make sure the rides are well organized.

hawkfest 10

I have ridden a lot in island park and we stay at a motel that has 19 beds all in one room and hot tub by the door, cook stove and extra bathrooms a lot of room, on the trail to some of the greatest riding Ive seen about 2 miles to the riding from the room. I am sure we would have to reserve the room now. good resteurant next door and big lodge across the street and gas etc. plus on the trail system to west yellowstone.xxxxx But I prefer going with the guys in Utah ,I rode with sledder 2,It was wonderfull. 3 weeks ago and the terrain is just right for the hawks smooth as glass and on a groomed trail ,to the hills, Steve said we were in 4 of 10 big bowls We didnt have enough gas to see all of it. In fact I ran out of gas on the 503 We sidhilled up a big mtn and I watched them come down the face of this 1/4 mile bowl and they never hit a single bump with no trees or rocks. And this was less than 50 min. from town. to the bowl. GREAT. My vote is for utah. 450 miles from Missoula and all freeway. Cook city is out of the running with 80 miles of 35mph in the park just to get to town. Hey Steve and Steve thanks for the accomodations and all fun on my short visit I very much look forward to next winter I plan to be there more than once. I had the worst ride home in that bilzzard of my life, no big deal or I would have stopped. but was really bad. My left front tire was rubbing all the way around the fender well.on Ice. Well I will talk later. Bud Have a good summer all.

It was fun to ride with ya Bud!
Too bad you had to drive home in that blizzard! It snowed Sun and Mon and we had a great ride on Tue.
I hope you got your coat back, I sent it with Dr. Phill's stuff. Well let me reword that....I hope that was your coat that I found in my truck 'cause I sent it back up there. LOL.

coat

Yah that was mine. It snowed here all day. but never added up. I just put a different cross shaft on that 503 and new brgs and then found that it was built the same as the old shaft so still need to shim the shaft for the arctic cat clutch What a bumber. That is what you get for using the wrong machinest. the 503 had 60 pilots I use 45, and 185 mains I use 150 160 maybe the engine is borred out. So I left the 185 and 170 till I find out for sure. I plan on going out one of the next 3 days. Talk later. Bud

Can somebody tell me where exactly is Island Park ? I'm trying to figure out how much of a crazy drive that would be for me. I can't locate it with Streets & Trips.

From my place to Logan, it's 1007 miles of driving, one way. Just a few hundreds more than you guys in the Seatlle area.

Just a little SW of West Yellowstone, MT. Its about 5 hours north from Logan. About 250 Mi.

My Vote is for Utah

I thought we were shooting for Utah this next year.
We have some great guides in the area and some great terrain there that is all off trail.
