Have you or a friend ever been addicted to oxy-contin?

How do you get off this ****. Its legal Heroin. My frind has tried and tried but gets so sick when he quits he gets back on it.I think he could die.

I have known several that have been hooked on this. It is nasty stuff. Best deal is to go to check in to a rehab if they can not get off cold turkey. One friend of mine just died recently. It got so bad that this individual was doing alcohol with the drugs. Ate their insides up.

Have your friend go get some professional help. The deal is this, if your friend wants off the stuff bad enough then they will have to "man up" and deal with how awful it feels to go thru withdrawl. If they don't want off it bad enough then they will continue to have a problem. Rehab only helps if they really want off the stuff, and make the sacrifice to get off it. There is no easy out off this stuff.

His doctor is trying to get him onto a methadone program. I've looked into this and methadone is harder to get off then the oxycontin, so I'd imagine he'd NEVER get off the that program.

I would recomend a new doctor:mad: I think the point is to break the addiction, not get them hooked on a drug that a doctor can prescribe.

If your friend wants to be off the drug he will have to go through being sick, I have seen it more than once for many different drugs. It is not fun and they get real sick, but they will come out of it. I rehab program will have medical staff that know how to handle the sickness.

Eventually it will catch up to him and he will find himslef in jail on felony dru charges if he is getting this stuff illegally. Beleive me you do not want to detox in jail.

I have a friend with chronic pancreatitis ... he's pretty much been on morphine for the last 3 years or so, and even that got to the point it didn't help him, so they started giving him temporary nerve blocks ... those are starting to fail now too. The only other thing they can do to dull the pain is a permanent nerve block, but that's typically reserved for dying cancer patients and such.

They had to very slowly ween him off the morphine because being on it indefinatley is very damaging to the liver.... but yeah, once you get hooked on that **** you're pretty well ****ed man :(

You really need to see an addiction specialist for help.

Drugs are baaad.

Mmmmkay?

Have a niece and her boyfriend hooked on that stuff and it is horrible, he almost died once. They went on the methadone treatment and have recently reverted from the way she is acting. It is to bad she is one of the most beautifull girls you will ever see but is ruining her life and her families. I did some research and found the Schick Schadle program is the best availlable but is quite expensive. Also if you pay the up front cost and they decide to leave the programs they cannot stop them, she has done that before when she was sent to rehab. If there is any way you can get him to commit fully it would work, if you can find 18,000 dollars, but if not he will be toast. Swampy

True but it is dirty stuff and that is why it causes liver damage and such. This is what is was told directly from a young man 23 who is in aa for a heroin addiction. He said people pay $50-150 a pill of oxy!!:eek: That is why people go to shooting the big H. oh and stealing and robbing. Ween Ween Ween is all you can do. or rehab of course. But trust me they put you through hard core withdrawls, but they are there to monitor. I think the best thing for a person is to feel the pain so they never forget what awaits them if they are ever weak in the future and start up again.

I've heard Heroin is cheaper!....Bad Chit no doubt.I feel for your friend.

google suboxone. it is THE answer to the problem. with strict care
from a doctor, this will cure them and minimize the withdrawal symptoms

I got lucky last year. Accidently drove a nail thru my forearm (Im not telling ya how), Doc gave me a few oxycotin. Took 1 and didnt feel it, took second 1 as per doctor still didnt feel it. Ended up throwin the other 2 out and stuck with the T3's. No addiction that day.........

They had the same effect on me. What is weird, I take a T-3 and I am toast for the beter part of the day!

If he can man up and deal with it, it's possible without a re-hab treatment. Have him start taking a little less and less each day. Pick a day after a week or so to quit. He'll be sick for about three or four days but it can be done.

Used to eat them by the handful in college (along with just about every other drug around...). Tough drug to kick on your own, especially if you still hang in circles where people are still doing it. Extremely physically addictive. Withdrawal is VERY unpleasant. Like not sleeping at night and limbs so jittery that feel like they have a mind of their own. Not fun at all.
Best odds for quitting are with professional help, like others have said. Doctor and/or rehab are the best bet. Quitting can be done without help (I did it), but it's not at all easy. Probably the drug I had the hardest time quitting, and I quit a lot of drugs.

oxys are a b!tch

yes, methadone is going backwards.I have a friend that is on methadone and he told me if he was to quit that he would have to take percs, oxys(same thing) for awhile and then slowly ween himself off them.the methadone gets into your bones after awhile from what I was told?
I myself have taken plenty of oxys and they can be a b!tch to kick, but it is possible to do it on your own but you have to actually really want to.

someone metioned schick shadel, expensive and they want half upfront.they work well but it is short term(in the big picture)and then it is reallly up to you.

the bottom line though,no one is going to quit something unless they really want to.you cannot force this or it will not work.it has to be there choice!

Addictions suck! I have had friends addicted to other things. The first thing is getting your friend to admit that they have a problem. Encourage them to get help, and be there to support them.
