Holy crap I was thinking the other day about my purchases of clothing etc for sledding (non hardware/mods).

I was checking all my gear and drying it out and started adding - holy crap
how do I afford this sport .....

just for kicks grab a calculator and add it up. you will be surprised.

yes. this year bought all new klim gear. bought all ua base layer klim inferno mid layer. boa boots new fly helmet with 509's and a escape 15.got a good deal on most of it and still was about $2200. thats why the family has to eat macaroni now. forgot the beacon make it 2500

I say the same thing....he can't even touch it or look at it.

Not sure what all my gear adds up too. I've built up over 3 or 4 years and always have had the luxury of shopping for a great deal, like clearance, etc.

Just a rough guess but I bet if I had to replace it all right now it would be 1500-2000.

It is a wee bit ridiculous, but you don't have to have the best of the best. There's some quality gear out there for decent prices.
Beacon $250.00
Backpack $30.00 instead of $120.00
Jacket $75.00 instead of $350.00
Goretex Bibs $70.00 instead of $300.00
Goretex Gloves $35.00 instead of $80.00
Helmet $75.00 instead of $200.00
Motocross vest $65.00 instead of tekvest $300.00
You can be ready to roll for roughly $700 instead of $1,800 to $2,000.
I'm going to have two kids in college in 1 1/2 years and every single buck needs to be accounted for. Some will argue that the high quality gear will outlast the bargain basement equipment, but I would have to disagree. I'm going on six to seven 2,000 mile seasons on the same gear, the first thing to fail were my high dollar boots.

I had all my gear stolen out of my trailer a few years back and the insurance claim ended up at $3500 CDN. There wasn't even any disputing it with the adjuster. I was racing at the time and had pics with the gear on.

dirt bike, 400 in pants and jersey.
350 in boots
100 in gear bag
100 in gloves
100 in Under Armour easily
30-40 in socks.

water skiing, 600 in ski, 5 years old. easy 1200 to update
75 in cheaper good vest
50 dollar gloves-5th season and showing it
rope is 50-75.
boat, don't own yet but ouch.

Damn, I have about $3000.00 estimated just in snowmobile and dirtbike gear from Klim. Puts a chill in your spine thinking about it. I need some moreso I won't think about it.
