Hatchers Pass Conditions 11-15

Not to get off topic here but I was at Hatchers yesterday for a avy course. It was a good course by the way. Anyhow, a DNR agent by the name of Kim, I think, was giving a short talk about the park and avy's. About half way through she states how much she dislikes snowmachiners. Hummmm... park ranger, doesn't like snowmachiners? Not a good situation.

There have been many posts about her on here Doug. I have yet to find one that has said anything good about her.

Snow level change?

I see that they now say they won't open until there is 30 inches of snow with a firm base. I thought it was 24 inches in years past. Kim and superintendent Wayne appear to be very anti-snomo. Wayne got in trouble last year by trying to limit peoples access to their cabins and property due to insufficient snow. I wish Dennis and Pat were still at Hatchers.

Make sure your sled is registered (and up to date), they will ticket you if not. Don't bother arguing with them, if you are wrong about anything you will get a ticket. Also, don't forget to pay for your parking within minutes or get a ticket (before you unload), not having change for a $20 is not an excuse. Parking lots fill up, and people vehicles get blocked in allot....yes more tickets. I have never got a ticket up there, but have seen many wrote out.

When did they start charging for parking? Funny 'cause I believe the park services is required to provide parking to users. Whatever...

It's $5.00 to park. She did say that the tickets and parking fees help pay for rescue and their salaries.. Apparently, they must like handing out tickets.

Sounds about right. If your sled is not registered it may not come off the trailer.

You know guys, this should not be an issue. It costs what $10 a year to register the things and that money goes into sled type funds such as grooming/trail heads ect... Yes we all hate it, but my truck must have a license plate, the boat has ak numbers and a registration ect.... get used to it and just register them! You never know, it just may help you get one back if it gets stolen! If you can afford to put fuel in the tank, you can surely afford to register the thing. Sorry for the rant guys, but this one gets old.

I can tell you she has some anger issues (not just from me but the ranger that works with her i cant remember his name right now), but I have worked with them before setting Markers for the trails up there. That is why i get so pissed when people poach up there. With someone like that up there it makes getting you points across pretty hard.

The parking fees have always been in place up there but they dont have nasty facilities and the road is nice and paved and maintained, the trails are groomed for the skiers and partially for us sledders.

I did hear the Burough approved the building of the resort up there, and within the requirements was a right of way / access for us sled heads to get to the back of the pass from the Palmer side still.

I registered my sled for 5 years and it cost me 35 bucks....you have to have it to ride Lost lake, Turny, Hatchers and any park or national park.

If its the blonde lady, well I like her.

I have had her let me off a couple times for not having my paperwork with me. I see things like registration and parking as a MUST, so the penalty is just what it is.

As for her talking bad about snowmachiners, well I hope you spoke up. ????????

Wow guys, didn't mean to start a let's bash the DNR agent thread. I am all for paying a fee to park or buying a yearly pass to park and registering our sleds. The money helps the park stay open. I was just takin back by the open dis-like for snowmachiners. Wooo Hooo touched off a stick did I? Sorry about that! :D
