Harley Starter

I don't belong to any motorcycle forums. Here is my question;
Do you have to take off the primary cover to replace a 2003 Electra glide classic starter? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Bendix, yes. Starter motor no.
Easier with a ball end allen socket to remove the starter bolts

Gimpster,
I just finished..."Thank You" The primary fluid need changing anyway. I didn't think it would be that much of a job.

I changed the primary oil in mine over to the Amsol V-Twin 20w-50. Sure can tell the difference on cold mornings. Starter seal is leaking primary oil though. Suppose one of these days I'll have to yank the primary drive, chain, clutch and inner case and change it out. Wish I would have known it was leaking when I changed my belt a month ago. (Jammin gars one afternoon and blew a belt that only had 10,000 miles on it) Replaced the other seals when the primary was apart except that one because both lips on the seal looked good and fit the shaft well still. Now it seeps... Some days !!
