Hand warmers Not working, any advice?

I just went out today and it was not a nice cozy ride. 07 M1000 handgrip warmers are MIA. The thumb throttle gets nice and warm but the warmers don't. I have not checked anything other than trying the switch on both positions. I thought I would get some input from others before I just start pulling wires and checking this and that. The sled does have the CCU update, so if anyone has any good ideas I'm listening.

This is what I would do to troubleshoot your problem.

First I would see if I am getting voltage to the hot wire b/f the switch. Then I would test the voltage after the switch. check your ground, you can pull a continuity test to make sure that it is not broken.

If you are getting power to the grips, and you have a good ground, and your wire that ties the two grip heaters together is ok, then the only other option is that the element has broken, or burned out, so you would have to replace the grip heaters.

I made a stupid mistake in my prior advice. no big deal but I'd like to revise the procedure that I would take.

If you check the power after the switch, and you are not getting power then check b/f the switch. if you are then getting power b/f the switch, you know that it is the switch.

but if you are getting power after the switch, then you have no reason to check for voltage pre switch.

You got me there - I should have said " good ideas " ............. It's my son's sled , he has good gloves , and the warmers were not heating up. There is a wise-arse in every crowd , unfortunately , SW has an abundance !!

No handguards installed - that would affect the handwarmers how !!

last year on my 07 M8 i had to replace the eliment because of a broken wire. Kind of a pain to do this but had no choice. good luck

Had to replace 3 out of 4 07 sleds last year. Could get them to work on and off but when you needed them they were not there. Went with the Moose aftermarket brand and have had no issues, and they get very warm. I think when I was asking this question last year I was told Cat had an issue with hand warmers in that year and I am beginning to believe they did.

Buy the Moose elements, a new set of grips and a can of expandable construction foam, wire the elements into the factory harness, fill the bars with expando foam, put the new grips on and use your old gloves problem solved!!!!!!!!:beer
firecattab, cat has had an issue with grips since 01 or 02 if ya get a good o.e. set they are great. I ride with a bunch of cats and their are a few that haven't had issues, most have done the moose elements and foam and are happy sledders!!!!!!

check the wiring in the control switch, seems it is a white or black wire, they didn't get inserted all the way into the connector at the factory and have seen a few, including mine, that are still in the connector but not making a connection. just push it in.

Hey thanks to everyone for there input. Believe it or not the NEW $60 gloves didn't fix the problem. That's what you get for listening to a know it all.
Chased the problem down with the volt/ohm meter. Got a open in one of them so it is replacement time. Next question do you have to cut the handgrips off to replace the heating element. I tried pulling them off and it wasn't going to good.

I get them hot with a heat gun, then I lift the grip and spray hairspray inside and work around untill I can get it to slip off.

Granted, with some work and depending on the year of sled you can get the grips off, but new grips only cost $12. My 08 M8 had glue holding the grips on - I cut them off. My buddies 05 M7 had no glue. Just depends on how much time you want to spend on them.

I changed 1 warmer mid season last year, by the end of the season the other warmer failed. This is on a 07 M. I bought moose warmers for the price of 1 stock cat one and they are hotter.
