Had to take the 09 rmk 700 in - motor knock!

MOTOR BLOWN - update -Had to take the 09 rmk 700 in - motor knock!

Had a mechanic checking my belt deflection as this is new to me....started engine and he said what is with that!!!! Told him I just noticed a noise last couple days, but thought it might be ice...or loose belt (thus belt deflec check). he wiggled primary clutch and you can hear a noise...start it up with hood up..whoa...really loud...did not notice if it increased with revs as it is such a fast knock.....guy said to me wonder if it is the wrist pin..yikes...
Took it to dealer as I have one year warranty....worried they say can't find it, or normal and then my darn warranty runs out at end of season......ahhhhhh
only have 400 miles!!!!!!

Called dealer today...they are rebuilding the engine...were still tearing it down...needed new pistons and cylinders for sure....felt the cause was overheating as the antifreeze jug was slightly enlarged....told dealer I have never seen it go over 126 and usually sits at 122-120.....unless digital part is off....said I thought they can be run to 160...dealer saw his go to 195 once pulling a guy out then light came on and shut it off....so felt it would have to be in the 200's...told him no way as drive exact same place as son as we go together, I have 400 miles, he has 550 as he has gone with some friends..his 600 is fine, mine is toast so if we drive in same conditions next to each other both should have heated.....dealer just trying to find cause so they do not rebuild and have same problem again...just hope I have enough snow and time when it is done to make sure it does not happen again as I only have the one year warranty and purchased it in Nov...
so just got snow and now motor is toast on new sled...thought the 700's were bullet proof!!!!ahhh.....

Dealer is being very good though as I have a ride lined up and cabin next week and he is going to let me use his sled....now that is a top notch dealer!

Warranty

You might want to ask the dealer if he will warranty the rebuild........maybe a year.

Saw sled today..both pistons scored on the front of them....not sure how that would make a knocking noise, but sounds like only top end is getting done.

What would cause this..they are thinking possibly snow ingestion..I just want to make sure that I will not have the same problem after the rebuild and run out of warranty.....

I imagine it is unlikely to ask for a new sled or new motor......is it??? I paid for a new sled and only have 400 miles....now I have a rebuilt motor!!!!!

What do you think...

Snow injestion; Take a good look inside the air plenum inside your hood, particularly around the headlight, windshield tabs, and headlight adjustment knob. On most sleds the foam weatherstripping around the headlight isn't even close to being installed correctly, and the other areas are just outright holes that need to be addressed. I used clear caulking to fill in all these areas to prevent snow injestion into the intake. Another area to address as long as your filling in holes is the small drip hole located in the center of the underhood air plenum. It drips moisture right into your right side exhaust valve spring causing it to rust away. You should seal off the factory drip hole and make a new one off to the side.

Mine would just run like garbage when it inhaled snow and then clear back up. I have no idea if that would cause your engine to go down...with enough snow who knows???

That would be my guess as well...I am flatland...hitting odd drift, etc. imagine the guys in the powder in the mountains and really powder hitting...now that would be snow ingestion....

comment was....warm motor, snow ingestion, cooled too fast.....is that possible to score pistons...I know motor has not been over 126 and is usually at 122.

Just got back from dealer.....mechanic was showing me that you can see through air cleaner horn right through the headlight adjust roller....said snow can come in through there...which thinks happened to mine...ingested snow...and got into motor..the fronts of pistons are scored which he said is normal with snow ingestion.....just bought a 2 dollar part from the 2010's that covers the rollers....boy if a 2 dollar part can save your motor....have to look at sealing up headlight now..
