Gutting Fusion 900 airbox???

I couldn't tell you but there are 3 of us in my group running the stock intake gutted. You could always reinstall the baffles if you were to lose performance.

They do pop right in and out, Do you feel a differance with it gutted?? If so, What??
I was running a Timber Sled intake with a K/N filter I upgraded to but, friend who I trust with out question, Rich Daley who owns DYNOPORT and has done my clutch and pipe and ????, said the T/S is loosing HP and the stock box is better, He did say, SLP box was even better but not that much. Said never tried gutting box.

Yes the Timbersled intake was worse because it draws hot air from under the hood and also has the restriction of filter material. The stock intake and Fire n' Ice intake are the only two intakes that draw clean cool air from the dash. The SLP intake seems to get clogged with snow and then has to draw its air from under the hood. Since the intake is going on a fusion you won't notice the nose clogged as much as you would on an rmk getting into deep powder.

The gutted air box actually flows really well, just heavy and doesn't allow for a proper belt cover.

Gut it then try it. If it don't work you can always put the baffles back in or buy the after market one. I gutted mine but have not rode it yet.

Thinking about building out of aluminum a custom box, like but not exact to Fire n Ice . Keeping the belt cover from the T/S mistake.

Watched a video and saw pictures of a stock box mod that produced, on video, +3 HP on stock 900 and +4 HP on top of the 14 gained from a DYNOPORT piped 900, I purchased a extra stock box and will bo making a exact replica of what I was shown and will post results to best of my ability after Grass, Test runs.

:beer;DONE with stock box mod, Gutted stock box, drilled 4 strategicaly placed 1,1/2" holes in box linning up for fresh air intake from front vent in hood, weatherstriped box and underside of hood as to cut off underhood heat from getting to new intake vents, cleaned out entire inside of box, installed 4 bullseye,D+D black snow/water proof vents, seal inside of new vents with RTV(Ultra Black, high temp, best thing for sleds ever), put SLP 3,1/8" weather resistant vent infront of clutch(to keep clutches cool), And took for a quick rip across back yard. WOW!!!! Just need to get vent blower back from friend to test flow but, I felt a major differance over stock box.

So how did it do with the bullseye mods on snow. Did it make a good improvement? Just got a dynoport pipe set for my '06 Fusion and thinking about this box mod also if it did you good.

After drilling a few extra holes and removing the baffling I did notice better performance in gaining top end speed quicker, better throttle response, and a better sound coming from under the hood. These 900's are starved for air from the factory, like every other production vehicle, and come to life once you help them breath more. I am thinking of the Fire'N'Ice set up next year, but you can't go wrong with a free mod that gains performance.

Been gone for a while, Yes, box works great.

Sorry for the delay, been off the site for a while,, Worked great on snow, got 2000 miles on box mod and love it, Plugs always looked perfect and rarely foul one. I would recomend this to any stock flash 866, with or with out the DYNOPORT pipe.
I'd be scared to do with SLP lean flash though so if you have the SLP set up, Be careful if you try.
