WWA teamed up with some twig fairies in the CB zone to shut sledders out of the Slate River Valley (and likely more areas). I don't live there any longer but a buddy in CB clued me into this, wanted to make sure you're all aware of it. Please fight the good fight! Slate River area is a blast! It already has a natural closure at Paradise Divide (don't know if anyone could pull that climb mid winter?) and the whole Oh-Be-Joyful drainage. Not to mention the minimal open areas up Washington Gulch just over the ridge. Or the whole Gothic valley...

Rode the Punch bowl this summer, fruitloops were crawling out of the woodwork around Gothic!:hippie:

I'm almost twice your age, lived there before you were even born. To see the place get taken over has been pretty sad.

Seven separate Wilderness Areas surrounding Crested Butte isn't enough for these Men-in-Tights. They won't be finished until every use other than their skinny skis & mountain bikes is GONE. (oh, but they do plan to groom their XC trails using a diesel snowcat @ night)

Support Gunnison SnoTrackers snowmobile club, and GOAT's (Gunnison Valley O.H.V. Alliance of Trailriders) who OPPOSE these senseless closures of your public land.

Both are on FaceBook.

These people are dreaming up trouble...

They see 20 snowmobiles and two licensed, commercial snowcats on "their turf" during every outing......EVEN IN THE WILDERNESS??? WTF.

B.S.! Absolute eco-fantasy. They're skiing in the WRONG area for a private experience.

I ride mid-week just outside of Crested Butte and down around Silverton and don't see skiers or snowmobilers often AT ALL. Maybe a group of rental sleds on the trail during March. Rest of the season- nada. Weekends, yes we get traffic from all types of users. But, a couple of miles out you'd be hard pressed to find others nearby. This isn't Vail Pass. It isn't Rabbit Ears. It isn't Jones Pass. We are NOT close to Denver and the front range. We ARE in the middle of 7 frickin Wilderness Areas SilentAsses can go use.

But then again, I'm not out looking for automobile traffic on I-25 & Colorado in Denver, acting surprised and posting videos of it.

I'm one of the founders of Share the Slate and I appreciate all of the support. Silent Tracks and these other organizations are basically trying to push and force the FS to make a decision on a new travel management policy in the valley through their small and minority collection of user conflict.

We spawned our organization by representing the majority of users in this valley that have so far haven't been very vocal. Right now, the FS could take a year or it could take 5 years to come up with a new travel management plan, but the decision could set a new precedence on multi user travel not just in this valley, but other areas in the valley, state or country as well. Users of the Slate river valley shouldn't just be thinking about the Slate, but Wash gulch, Gothic, Brush Creek, Cement Creek, ect as well.

Please sign up for our email list for updates as we'll be doing some major data collection on user days, access and surveys in the next several months. It's the individual users and community as a whole being informed and vocal that will help retain and gain access for future users.

We need to look into placing small log huts with wood-burning stoves around areas we ride. Also, need to discuss additional grooming and places we can expand motorized/hybrid travel to! If we're not on the offensive, we're getting rolled. Thanks for getting together a "group" to speak for the many users of the upper valley.
