Gun for wife

Take her to a gun show. Have her try them out. It took me 2 days walking around, till I found one that fit my grip and wasn't too heavy.

I left with a FN Hertsel Five-7 Tatical.

What I love about its about 20% lighter then a 9mm and can take up to up to 20 rounds. More info on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_Five-seven

Good Luck with the search.

Great advice, most women aren't informed or comfortable with firearms.

Starting to look for a gun for the wife. What is a good small frame 9mm that people have shot. Wife is a little thing so looking or a fairly small gun without huge recoil. She has shot my .44mag but doesn't really like it as the SOB is so big. Ideas?

I have a Springfield XDm .40 and it's got a bit of a kick and is too big for concealed (and I'm average height and weight). So my next pistol for concealed when I save up the money will be a Springfield 3.8 (short barrel 9mm) or a Glock G19 9mm (compact). I've shot the G19 at the range and it's nice and really easy to shoot. Both are super simple to take apart and put back together. The Springfield has an indicator when there's a round in the chamber and an indicator for when it's cocked and ready to fire. Plus it's a prettier gun, heeheehee.

The only thing about the Glock is I have small hands the Glock grip is a bit big. That's why I got the Springfield - it has adjustable grips and my trigger finger is right where it should be.

The XDm had a really stiff mag release (common problem, but probably fixed by now). Springfield paid for it to be FedExed back to them, fixed it for free, had it back to me in short order noticeably easier.

Correction: After talking this morning to the gun dealer I bought the XDm from, he said he was just at the gun show and was impressed with the 3.8 until he handled it. He said it's basically the full size gun with a less than 1" diff in the barrel, so it sounds like the 3" or 4" barrel in the subcompact or compact XDs would be better. The XDs don't have the adjustable backstraps like the XDms do, but I didn't need to change my backstrap and he said they should be the same on the XDs.

Went and checked out a few today. She seemed to like the XD9 the best of what they had at the store. Unfortunatly there is no place in town to shoot different guns.

See if you can locate a Steyr M9. It's a nice compact little 9mm for the money.

S&W .38 special air weight crimson trace wheel gun. It's perfect for her. She's real happy with it.

Not sure, but they used to make a Model 36 "Lady Smith" also? :beer;

Sure I have semi autos, but wheel guns are nice cuz if you have a misfire in an auto, you have to come off your target (to eject the round), with a wheel gun you simply pull the trigger again. In a "do or die" senario I would rather have the wheel gun for her...plus the S&W is super lite and very concealable...just my .02

For a concealable revolver, espcially for a lady, the S&W 442 airweight is hard to beat. Simple operation just point and start pulling the trigger. I like that it's hammerless. Less stuff for it to get hung up on and in a panic cituation there is no do I need to **** it or not to cloud the users judgement. That and being double action only there is much less chance of a nervous shaky hands accidental discharge. My wife and mother both carry one in their purse.

Try a taurus 25 auto. Also could look at Kel-tec PF-9. Smallest and lightest 9mm production semi auto.
