Gun for wife

Starting to look for a gun for the wife. What is a good small frame 9mm that people have shot. Wife is a little thing so looking or a fairly small gun without huge recoil. She has shot my .44mag but doesn't really like it as the SOB is so big. Ideas?

Mostly just shooting at the range but we would probably use it as a boat gun in the summer instead of the .44. Got to have something to kill the big buts.

I borrowed a Walther .380 ACP PPK from a friend to carry with me walking to my tree stand with my bow in the event I run into a big kitty. Nice pistol, I prefer larger pistols but the girlfriend sure likes the small 6rd frame. I would prefer for myself a Springfield XD in a .45 ACP. You could also look at the Walther PPK in a 9mm.

I personally have my Ruger LCP .380, LOVE IT. I carry it in my purse and no one knows!! My .45 Colt is just not near as easy to carry without alarming people haha. It also has a nice kick!!! That is just my girly .02.....

got my wife and mom glock 9mms with laser sites last christmas and they like them. Also tried out a little S&W 9mm in the gun shop the other day for about $350 that I thought was a nice little piece for the price, but don't know how it would shoot

I personally would not get a self defense pistol with a safety that has to be manually turned on and off. The only time the gun is out of the holster is to shoot and in a hi stress situation they are going to forget to unlock the safety. Glock 19 or XD9 mid frame with night sights.

Springfield XDM-9. Great shooting gun, interchangable backstaps (small, medium, and large grip) to fit her or your hand, and how can you argue with 19+1 capacity for when the zombies attack.

I just picked up a cal-tec 380 for the wife, these are the new breed of carry guns, weighs 14 oz, is 3/4 " wide, its a great gun, I got mine for $269.00, this gun also comes in 9mm, and one other size, remember these are small guns and ment for self defence, I carry mine in the MH by the table, about 10 ft from the door....................

The absolute best gun for her would be one that SHE is comfortable with. I suggest taking her to a range with a variety of handguns. Some ranges have some you can rent, otherwise you may have to borrow from friends or contact a local shooting group. The former thought was for a "first" handgun to be a revolver. However, the newer model polymers are excellent and easy to operate, which is important in a high stress situation. Some suggestions are: Springfield XDM, Smith and Wesson M&P, Sig Sauer P250, Glock 17. But, again, and most important, it should be what she is comfortable with. Everybody and every hand shoots different. If she has something that she isn't comfortable with or is afraid to shoot, she will be afraid to shoot when she needs to.

I bought my wife the Smith & Wesson 9mm HP. It is composite except for the slide. ACP, high capacity 17 round mag. Super lite hardly any kick. Works great.

My ex is 5' 6" and about 130#. She LOVED shooting my Beretta 92FS. Don't rule out larger framed pistols. Like Flatfoot said, let her test a bunch first.

Sorry but have to agree with the let her try a few from your buddies to a rental range etc. Wife shot and hated my 10mm and decided S&W 357 was for her!! Changed grips and she shoots the hell out of it! Rec 9mm or larger and the rest leave up to her!
