Grips for RSI bars

I am running RSI bars with built in hooks and am looking for a good set of grips . I have tried there grips and have not had good luck with them . They just don't last a season .

I liked their grip tape when I used it on my nytro. could make it as thick or thin as you wanted and always felt good and pretty easy to replace when worn. I see grips as expendable and would rather replace a set or two a year than have a hard time holding onto my sled. I found the grip tape worked well because it was easy to remove without damaging the heaters each time. Just wrapped the heaters with electrical tape and put the grip tape over that and upon removal the heater and electrical tape stayed intact.

ODIs work well. A little thicker than the stock grips. I corked mine and used spray foam inside the bars to make the heaters work a little better.

Beamslayer,

The RSI/ODI grips that you are talking about are my favorites.

I think of them as an expendable item that allows you to hold onto your sled the best... you should count on replacing ANY good grip at least once during the season if not more ( I go through 2-3 sets on average).... the stock Polaris grips... last about half the season before they get slick.... I like the RSI grips the best.

For me I just buy multiple pairs to have on the shelf.

One pair costs less than a tank of gas.

I know where you are coming from with durability...but I really love how connected you are to the sled with these grips. Less fatigue on my arms as I dont have to put the kung-foo grip on my bars to hold onto the sled.

Kind of like rock crawling tires as an analogy... the ones with the best grip also wear the fastest.

I used that RSI tape for the last few years and with my weak grip it was tough holding on to the bars. just found the tape too slippy when compared to to the rubber grips. tape was easy to put on and take off though. And yes that is exactly what it is road bike tape. i would rather use the sticky rubber grips and replace them yearly. then get arm pump from trying to hang on all day. I will have to remember to tape the whole heater element to protect it. i just wrapped the wire connections to help protect them in case the grip rotated on the bar.

odi ruffian grips are my favorite.

and for installation get the air compressor out and "blow" the grip on working it at where it meets the bar.
i dont use any glue or and thing to help it on just air. a dry fi tworks best followed up with some safety wire. i have never had a grip slip with this method.

Ya taping the whole element helps to protect it if the grip rotates at all. Went through two sets on my nytro in 3 trips. Both covered under warranty thankfully but the last time i removed the stock grip and taped the element well and put the grip tape on.

Another option a friend used was the handle grip tape for tennis rackets. Even cheaper, can be found in a bunch of colors and seems to be more grippy than the RSI tape but still comfortable on the hands. The only downfall to this option is it gets dirty easier depending on the color and may wear out faster but is only a 10 minute job to replace and can be found readily at any sporting goods store. Will likely be my next route for grips once I wear the ones on my Pro out. I am a fan of better grips for my sled even at the expense of swapping out every couple trips. The tennis racket grip will be cheap and easy to swap often. Just my opinion and preference though. Best thing about us sledders is we often find ways to think outside the box.

The grips for the Polaris IQR work really well and they have a bit of a swell on the end where the get thicker. They are long grips and where they get thinker ate the end is where I always wear mine out. they are a bit more expensive but they last a long time!!
