Grippers and C&A Ski Pads/Rubbers...Be Careful

are 15's any different?

I have seen the abrupt stop happen to a couple of my buddies.....

Do the 15's appear to be the same? I would imagine so...

Blew up a new pair of poo rubbers in 400 miles last season, both cracked, lawn jarting in deep wet snow. My 11 did the same thing every season. Replaced under warranty, then swapped skis, for multiple reasons.

Ran grippers in narrow. If run in middle, I suspect there are far fewer failures, at least with low miles. When set wide or narrow with poo ski stops, there is less rib support. Inherent in ski and stopper design. Any eventual change by poo will be very quiet, since they won't want to infer any kind of safety issues. Lawyers rule with product liability.

I was a lawn jart last year, so I've gone two approaches this year. We'll see how they work out.

For my Switchback, I put a 1/16" thick x 1" wide piece of UHMW under the stock rubbers and it stiffened them up significantly.

For the RMK, I got the Doo rubbers. Pics below of the install:

Here's a comparison pic of the Poo vs. Doo (part #505071779)

I cut the 45 degree angles off with a razor blade to fit better in the 1" wide slot.

Here is the Doo rubber dropped in the pocket:

I jacked up the sled, rather than tipped it on its side, so that I could use the weight of the sled to wedge the rubbers on. It's a really tight fit and am concerned about the plastic giving way, like Mountainhorse mentioned.

Stuck a screwdriver in to help line up the first holes:

Then I lowered the sled onto a 2x4 on edge, on the side of the ski, so that it would flex up enough to get the bolt in the rest of the way.

We'll see how they Doo....

Trying something new this year after two sets of doo rubbers last year.
Was talking to a local guy and he gave me a blinding flash of the obvious.
Putting silicone grease on the top of the rubber to keep the spindle from tearing it.
As soon as i heard it everything makes sense, the rubber will squish out of the way and then return to its original shape.

I'll see how it works.
Cant see how it could make anything worse.

Interested. I'm also thinking smoothing out the surface of the spindle would help. I'm thinking the shape of the spindle and it being rough is tearing the rubber prematurely.

Never thought about putting grease in there to solve the problem. I just put the Rev rubber in mine. Yes, it is a tight fit for sure, but seems like it will work.

Back when I was younger I used to PDI sleds and do pre-season's for our local Polaris dealer. The dealership was a good one, and the guy that owned it taught me to always grease the top of the ski rubbers. He was meticulous.
