Gripper ski question

I'm looking at putting a set of gripper skis on my M. I'm wondering if there's been any changes in the skis over the years. I've looked and they have different part numbers through out the years. When did Polaris come out with this ski?

I think I have sets from just about every year and they all look the same to me. Maybe I'm just an idiot but I can't see any difference.

I've put them on all kinds of sleds. The rubbers that come stock with the skis are a little thin and mash pretty easy. There are several threads on this.

The rubber for the sidehiller II skis fits the gripper skis. It's a little taller and firmer so I have been using that. Look up the part number for a 2006 RMK 600 and that is the one I'm talking about. I also put a thin piece of aluminum under a set of Gripper rubbers and that seemed to work too. Oops -not 2006, that's too new. That's the snubber they are still using - look for a 2004.

After riding with a bunch of Cats this weekend I'd switch skis too. Can't understand why the heaviest sled of the big 3 runs the smallest ski. Whatever -

You'll probably need a set of bolts, nuts and washers too. One bolt alone (without the washers or nuts) from Polaris is $12. Ouch!

The bolt spec is a 10mm x 1.5 pitch x 155mms long, grade 8.8. Do yourself a favor and go get one from Fasteners Inc or Fastenal for less than 1/2 that, including the nut and washers!

AHA - I found a difference~!~

When they went to the Pro chassis, the spindle changed! It no longer has a 3/8" hole, now it has a 10mm hole. Therefore the bolt, nut, washers, and bushings all changed.

What that means is IQ skis will fit a Pro chassis as long as you change the two bushings in the ski and use the Pro bolt. Likewise you could put Pro skis on an IQ chassis. If you used the original bushings they would be a little big and have some slop.

That explains why on one of the Indy Lites I put skis on I had to drill out the spindles slightly but didn't on the other. One set of skis must have come off an IQ and one set off a Pro. (bought off a classified ad so no idea where they came from)

Thanks for the responses. I bought a set off a 13 it looks like they are coming with hardware and rubbers. I don't know if I'll be using the Polaris rubber or the cat rubber but I'll figure that out when they get here.

Besides the bolts and bushings size, there has to be a change in the pocket where the rubber sits in the ski. I used 08 Grippers on my 07 SB without issue but I had to shim the front of the rubber to work on my SBA. The rubbers are the same for all years so the pocket has to of changed with spindle shape. Can you see that in the ski's you have?

OR...

The spindle changed in relation to the rubber.

The pockets all look the same to me - I would have to pull some skis to see if the ski spindle angle in relation to the rubber changed.

Well I thought the ski pocket would be the same but when I put my older Grippers on my new SBA last year i was surprised that the ski had extreme movement (especially going up in the front). So I thought easy fix, the spindles changed so I need to buy the new rubbers for the SBA 13 spindle. The rubbers I got are exactly the same as the old ones that don't work. So for 2013 if the rubber is the same and the spindle has changed, I thought the ski would have to change too. :frusty:

I guess the pocket might not have changed then the hole/bushings must be lower in the newer ski to create a tighter fit. The smaller bolt does not help either.
