grip heater or hand warmers

Well on my first trip out day 2 even after drying bike off in the trailer half way through the day after stopping my throttle froze up. I heated the bar with a lighter and let the bike run. Eventually it let go. Now I am not sure if it froze on the twist grip part on on the cable somewhere. Regardless my hands were cold and I think I need to try something to help.

What have people tried that the recommend? I am guessing the full slip on grips are best vs. the element pads?

09 efi kx 450f.

Also would be great if I new where to tie power in for warmers and eventually headlight.

Thanks.

any ideas what probably froze on my throttle? Cable at throttle body, cable it self maybe an open spot, or at the handlebar?

I know a couple of guys that ran lights and grips off the 09 kx 450f and said it was a stretch but it worked.

ame grips seems to be some confusion. One site says you need a wiring harness and they dont list my bike.

ame it self is sold out.

Frozen Throttle

I have had my throttle freeze up quite often and met another whose does the same. We both have no to place to thaw and dry out the bikes after rides. Nearest i could figure on mine was the cables themselves were frozen. If i put heat to them near the carb they would break loose.
Only thing i can think of is the cables arn't sealed good and water is getting in. When the engines running i keeps them thawed but it i sit for 30 min it starts to stick.
Still don't have a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried spraying WD-40 down your throttle cable? It should displace some moisture.

I plan to put an new cable on, grip heaters and a engine blanket and hopefully that problem goes away.

Anyone know where I will tie in for power for lights or grips? I was reading about an "orange" wire?

Gessh you wouldnt think it would be this hard to get information on grips. Just about every dealer I have called says it wont work on my bike yet I know there are people running warmers and headlights on the kawi. Just during start up they must be off and I think only run 1 at a time.

cyclops says they have a wiring harness but only list kawi 2010 and up and I am pretty sure 09-12 is the same set up.

The only reason I am really looking at heated grips is to hopefully help reduce throttle freeze up. Dont get me wrong it would be nice to have but I am still unsure if help reduce freeze up.

Go with coolant heated bars. I ran the ame hot grips for few seasons they barely get warm. I made my own heated bars up best mod so far I luv having hot hands while riding getting old I guess ?.. the raze kit is nice but pricey , I made mine up for $140 few lines, block valve, plugged and welded bar ends also ran a internal line in bars and blocked centre section off to direct flow to grip areas.. At 160f-190f grip temps are perfect around 210f i can barely hang onto grips its awesome

Called cyclops and got the information.

They grips and lights will definitely work on the 09. The only reason it is not listed is they could not source out the plug in connector to power so you have to hardwire it in. Originally they did their first set ups on the 09 kx450f so they had plenty of experience with it. Apparently there is a power tie in spot behind the number plate.

They are currently out of stock but plan to restock soon on the grips.

Talked to Darryl, very knowledgeable and took to the time to explain what was needed. I will be ordering a set of grips and a 3 way switch as I already have a light.

I ran AME grips on a570 Berg and you couldn't have them higher than three or your hands would get too warm. I had a set on an 09 KX and they worked well also. Can't remember how I wired them but didn't have a head light.

Nice work.

The Raze heater system works great, the price is not bad considering ewe get new bars with taller rise, A full t stat kit and lines. don't need to worry about leaving electric grips on and draining Batt either.
