Grinding/ratcheting sound when braking.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this but my 2010 d8 (200 miles) when braking acts odd. Sounds like grinding gears and the brake lever vibrates. I was guessinng maybe the track is ratcheting but track tension is fine. Hoping someone can help.

not a mechanic

just trying to help. Check the chain case, chain tention, bearings ect.. make sure everything tight...bolts holding the assembly. Sorry no direct help.

What you are hearing is the track hitting the tunnel under neath of you. The only solution that worked for me was my FTX D&R kit. Track would have to be real loose to hit now!

What was the snow condition? Possibly iced up drivers. Mine would do that when the snow was wet and heavy. The best fix for that is anti ratchet drivers. They arent as close together. And if you make that change also change the track.(challenger extreme) Huge dif. like a whole different machine. It accually goes good in the deep powder.

Two things to check.
1. Track tension probably needs to be tightened up. 10lbs 16" from rear with 1/2"-3/4" sag
2. What were the snow conditions like? You may have had build up between the three drivers causing the track to ratchet. Personally, I don't see a need for the center driver (it's the cause of the build up) if you keep the proper tension. Nobody with the stock two driver set up has this problem.

Thanks for the ideas, brought it into the garage so the snow could melt and I checked the sled over. Couldn't find anything, so i went for a quick ride yesterday and it didn't do it anymore so I'm guessing snow or ice build-up.
