greewater groomers meeting

That's what I don't understand.Just because you underbid a job does not mean you don't have to finish it.If the contract says the road will be plowed from say dec to apr(just using those dates as a example) then thats what should happen even if the plow company is loosing money.

Now if the contract reads different and says you will plow for X amout of dollars per hr and when the money runs out the contract is finished I guess thats the way it goes.If it is this way it really needs to be changed to account for years like this where we get extreme snowfall in a short time frame.

Sounds way way underbid. $3000.00 a week , 7 weeks of plowing? Wonder what was left on the table?

I was thinking the same thing MAC29 ... sounds like a lot, but anyone in the construction industry would know different. $3K doesn't go very far anymore  It would help if the plow were more suited to the terrain ... it's way way under-sized for that job.

Dan,

Is there any effort in an additional cleanup being coordinated for this upcoming weekend? With a little help from all interested, I'm sure that we could accomplish a great deal.

Just my 2 cents.

According to the plow operator a bigger truck wouldn't help. quoting Ron the plow operator "I've been doing this for 20 years the plow is not the problem". imho he had way too many excuses .

I wasn't able to attend the meeting so I heard nothing first-hand and am not here to point fingers at anyone. I'd just like to get the road opened up to Pyramid Creek so we can all enjoy the riding up there and am ready to help out any way I can. Greenwater has given me years of enjoyment and I'm ready to give back ... hopefully we can get this organized and make it happen. I contacted the USFS in Enumclaw a few minutes ago and am waiting for a call back regarding volunteer access permission forms. I'll post when I get definitive answers regarding that issue. In the meantime, I'm rounding up all my gear to tackle the job ;)

When costs increase, as they do almost every year you increase your bid or you go broke, or we get no plowing. If you cant complete your contract it should go to next highest bidder. It sounds like there are other bidders because of another post stating he bid low to get the contract meaning to me there was money left on the table. Does anyone really know what the contract entails? Snow conditions change year to year. One year they clean up(no plowing) the next year not. Still have contract to complete.

He did have a lot of excuses for why things aren't being done proper. The contract is for so many hours of plowing. They bid on how much per hour cost. The truck isn't the right set up for these kind of conditions. Works great with little snow fall but not for the kind snow fall that we have had these past two years. He did say that he does 40mph while he plows. That is flat flying on that road while plowing!!! And if he was going that fast the whole road would be done in an hour!!! Kind of had to believe.

If he says he does 40 mph while plowing (second hand info)--then I call him on this--I have been behind him while the plowing was being done--more like 10mph--maybe.

If there is another cleanup--give us a heads up--I could go tomorrow or thursday with equipment and ready to go.

H20SKE....

Here's a flaw , or an omission in the mathematical equation when you say 2-1/2 days.

Let's say $200/hr. sticking with your thinking and to make a buck. That leaves you with 15 hrs of work. An hour to get to the site and back. Leaves you with 13-14 hrs if only going to last a couple of days.

Is there 13-14 hours worth of plowing to go in one way and back out on an 7-8 mile stretch of road? I hope not.

I tend to believe the groomer / plow operator when they say 2 weeks as it is their business and they know how much it actually costs them and what it takes to make a buck.

Another question though is the frequency in which they plow - dependant on the snow I assume.

What are you talking about...???

I never said it would take 'x' amount of hours to do the plowing.. Just made the point that if anyone thinks they are going to get rich plowing for 3k a week, they know something the rest of the world doesn't.

Work party today , road now cleared

Dennis and Scott went up today and cut and cleared all the trees out. Funny how only 2 people and one guy from the state showed up. Never the less, they did a great job, got the trees cut and moved and it's now clear. Not that it will stay that way. R&R can now go up there and finish plowing the road to make it wide enough for the lower snowpark. Rain moivng in so I'm sure it's going to be ugly up there for a few days. Now we have to wait for the forest service to open it up to the public, Thanks Dennis and Scott very much, Alot of us appreciate your fast effort, wish I could have come up and helped, sometimes work gets in the way of our playtime.

Thank you Dennis and volunteers.

Myself and others volunteered to cut trees this weekend at the groomers meeting, but we all owe much thanks to those that were able to get it done today. Clearing over 100 trees today was a great effort!! Wow!!
