greenwater GATE

You didn't ask her why it's there in the first place did you? I have been meaning to stop in there and get the scoop (or lies) but have not been to Enumclaw this week. She snowmobiles too if is was a younger one you spoke with.

I called the Enumclaw Forest circus office yesterday(Wednesday at 430pm) and she said it was open.

How is the snow past the gate and before the snowpark?

If it warmed up it is going to be alot of pavement to get up there?

Last Saturday there were some bare spots.

She said; its is there to close the road when its bad and so they dont have to have someone stand there all day tuning everyone around.

Ya - sure glad it was closed today, they had all of three inches there, if that - woo hoo!! All of which was gone in the afternoon. There were a handful of 50 to 100 yard stretches of asphalt to ride. As a matter of fact they closed the gate and there were a handful of vehicles at the Sno-Park at the end of the pavement that were up there before the FS was this morning.

All I am saying is that if they are going to close the gate learn to read the road / weather conditions. A little bit of snow overnite does not warrant closing the gate knowing it is going to warm up in the afternoon and melt it off.
Clear blue-bird day - who can't read those conditions. The FS.

The reason they have been closing it was they have to prevent snomobile and auto traffic in the same area. This was due to a mandate from the Oregon incident where a snomobile and auto accident.

If you notice the new signs telling you where the snow park is located (just after you turn onto the 70 RD) for the day. They have taken the roll of communicator until now, however if everyone does not follow the rules then they will be forced to write tickets.

This is why they keep it closed in hunting season.

It also didn't help when they had a 4 place enclosed trailer off the cliff on the 12 percent grade a few weeks ago.

Don't get me wrong I'm able to make it just fine with out chains towing a 4 place trailer but there are others that are not willing to chance it.

I hope this info is useful. Thanks.

I understand , I just wish they would have put the gate right after the first rock quarry, took a dozer and cleaned that area out and made a decent sno-park out of it. That little bit of elevation change is the difference a lot of times between riding a lot of pavement or not to get back to the truck.

Just like the by-pass road being built in the first place, wish a little more thought and common sense would have went into it is all.

COMMON SENSE?

Were talking about the Forest Service!

The BS

I'm not sure what were all going to do, but Saturday when I arrived (crack of noon) the gate was shut. Yes a couple rigs were locked in and there was a trailer sitting on the mattahorn hill (might be part of the reasoning). Some new snow, some bare, and honestly, I was somewhat relieved to not have to decide about chains (crappy tires) on such a late start day!

Stay with me here; After riding from 12 to about 6pm, we headed in and found to our surprise, more new rigs in the upper snow park. Oh they opened the gate...Here is the BS; and PLOWED THE F-ING ROAD! Open the gate mid day and plow the f-ing road out, are you f-ing kidding me right now???? F ! Getting pissed just writing this! As we got to the rock quarry, here was the plow driver. I stopped my abused machine and commented nicely that you cant close the f-ing gate and then open it later AND f-ing PLOW too!

I ended up getting a ride to go get my rig, but not before my son, ahead of me, came back up the road looking for us-sparks flying!

F Greenwater, I think I've rode my last ride there! F the FS, 12% grade, parking tickets, jacknifed yahoos and ****ty grooming.
PS: no grooming was done , he was out of town.

Ya , that sucks. I guess the gate was " dummy-locked" so the people that were up there could get out. I was loading up at 2:00 pm Sunday and the plow driver came in , but turned around at the gate and came back out. She must have decided to go back in. I did see the groomer coming in in his jeep when we were loading up. Is the plow driver FS or part of the grooming deal?

Like I said earlier , I understand the reasoning, just not how they make their decisions to close the gate. A couple of inches does not warrant closing it. I pull a 4-place enclosed and could have made it to the end easily without chaining.

I seen the fs kid yesterday and asked if he was going to lock us up thee? the fs kid shows up was sitting over in the groomed area waiting for us to leave. I rode up the trail then got off my sled and walked around the corner to see him pull up to the trucks and start checking permits. Chicken chit . Who is he to say when the road is to hazardous? Where did he get if any formal training on hazardous road conditions. The hazard I see is a inexperienced 18 yr old kid driving a vehicle in not so perfect conditions. He was up there doing donuts in the parking area.

FS boy.. Get back in yur crib, put yur binky in your mouth and let the adults do are thing.

Plowing is a separate contract through the State Parks, but he is the same guy that grooms, just like grooming but a separate contract. Sounds like a little communication could go along ways, what a mess-

umm they never plowed the road jackass! Its called spring riding conditions.. what do you think that they forgot to plow the shaded areas?? I was also there from about 8 till 6, i am not sure where you rode but we had untouched 12- 16 spring pow! I guess if you got off the trail you wouldnt be bitchin about the whoops.. and i did see the groomer on our way down... anything else you wanna bitch about? Thanks from me personally for staying away from greenwater!

Im glad he is going to stay away, groomer or plow truck driver has nothing to do with the gate that is handled by FS and the grooming has been fantastic all year long If you were their befor noon you would no that.

pull your head head out, that kid checks those permits up there when people leave so he doesnt have to listen to the lame excuses from every joe blow that has a different one. Find something else to complain about and if you have all your stuff in order you think you wouldnt care if he was writting tickets. Donuts in the parking lot???really??? you can barely drive through there without getting stuck from the washout let alone try and spin sideways up there through the middle of it??? xspenziv... stay in your crib so you can kick it on here and bi** some more while were out riding...:rant::rant:
and honestly if you had anyone up there with formal training on road safety we would be parking at the sart of the 70....

its his job.yes. all is in order. as far as the parking, barely drive through it. are you kidding its half dirt. a 1978 mazda glc 2wd can get around up there.
you must drive something worse if you almost get stuck up there. the wash out isnt that bad,it was worse a couple years ago. we went up and cleared the plugged colvert and dammed it back to the colvert to prevent it from getting worse. didnt sea you there helping. on sunday there was bare spots after the y headed to cell tower,im sure its worse to the right as it gets more sun light.the 70 road was bare all the way to the snow park. so you can go kick it up there in the dirt.
