Great ride yesterday 4-24

Another weekday ride with W8tn4u yesterday... As usual, we were in the sun riding untracked snow.... I would expect nothing less!!

This time the group was much smaller which meant we could spend more time punishing each other...

Where did we go you ask? I won't tell you.

I stop by to pick up Roger in the morning.... We load his sled on the trailer and then I see that he already loaded a small chainsaw on the back of the sled.... I guess we're going to have fun today....

After cutting our way in, we start the second part of the trek....

I'm guessing this is what keeps most people away from this area...

I'm sure Yammadog would be in full on complain mode at this point...

If you made a mistake, then you'd be in the river ... Stopping in this snow just wouldn't happen...

Once past that area we were into the good stuff.

Then the carnage began.... After being separated for 20 minutes or so I heard over the radio "rolled down the hill"... I met up with Roger who showed me over to the top of the hill and this is what we saw...

Now the camera just doesn't pick up on the angle of the hill that well...

So we put on the ski brakes as it was really hard snow still and headed down to help.... Well, I just headed down to get better pictures.

This is what I see...

The I hear the story that the sled rolled sideways at least 20 times...!!

So I look up at the line and if you look closely you can see the arc from the right side of the hill to the left and then it stops at the tree... then the marks of the roll over on the way down....

The sled stops up against a tree... very lucky.

So Roger grabs the rope and ties it up to the tree while I take pictures of them pulling it around...

It did require a little logging

Christmas tree anyone??

EagleCreek4-24017.jpg

A quick look at the sled and the only damage was some plastic scratches and his pride had a little bruising...

The carnage didn't end there though.......

About two hours later as we were hanging out we hear over the radio... "Um, I'm stuck here in the trees.... 360 flip.... come on over"

So we ride over and we see this....

Roger looks like he's just checking the status of the local growth...

But wait... the sled is facing uphill...How did it get there??

EagleCreek4-24019.jpg

I head over for a closer look...

Roger then explains that he was in fact coming down the hill and the snow in the shade still was hard and didn't allow him the luxury of turning so he plowed full speed into the trees while performing and end over end moved on the sled and simultaneously doing a forward flip himself...

All was good...

I already posted this picture earlier but the path to this lake was interesting... The discussion we had just prior to heading down into the abyss went something like this... Roger: I've never been down to that lake and I've wanted to try for many years. It looks like we might be able to ride this ravine all the way to the bottom. Me: Let's try it. I carry a sat phone for just these occasions.

So we go and were rewarded with this..

Looking back...

We continue to ride around and explore the rest of the afternoon

Great terrain... lots of trees! Just the way I like it.....

We head back but we still have to clear the off camber section again....

No damage...many rollovers and dinner at the Sultan bakery.... It was a good day indeed. Sorry you had to work Graveler!

It was a great ride yesterday, note to self on steep icy hills..........don't throttle on and throttle off several times when the front end comes up high and you can't steer, commit. Sled is fine, leg is healing and thanks for a great ride A, R, R. And by the way Fordman.......... it was 12 rolls but who is counting? Looking at my dirtbike, think I am going to ride that tomorrow and give my sled a rest, ducktape my leg of course. Looked at new KTM's today Fordman, nice....... but Orange......?!?
