gravelers lucky day!

Great post...

Hey Great post.

Thanks for the invite W8TN4U, looks like I missed out on some crazy action.

Art- Glad to hear you made it out alive. A busted sleds suck for sure but better that then you.

Can't wait to see the rest of the pics!

I do not think it was a take over--the ride looks awesome--But when he said--That does not look like a good hill---You need to listen--this was a good outcome for ART!! But it may not have been.
Fordman--we are waiting for the pictures for sure. Looks like a great area for sure!!

H20SKE...

Just to clarify for everyone, when graveler said "that does not look like a good hill" he was not looking at the section of hill we were climbing. We all agreed it was not safe and headed down the valley looking for a better line.
The section we climbed was not as steep and slowly transitioned to the flat at the bottom. Many of us climbed or played on this with nothing more than some slow moving slough slides in our tracks. Graveler accidently ended up in a spot that came down into a steep chute. It was not where he intended to be.
This is the section of hill we were looking at when I heard graveler say it looked like a bad hill.

What we have here is a group of riders that have created their own reality series. They go out and do as many crazy things as possible and then come back and post the pictures for the adoring audience. If your a regular on this WA section you'll notice the group keeps growing (everybody wants their picture and their crazy stunts posted) and the story's get more and more over the top. Somebody's going to get hurt before its all over. The Alcohol racer hit the nail on the head.

Wow! That is a bold statement from someone who was not there. I was there and what we had was a group of skilled riders, riding some fun and challenging terrain. Some aggressive lines were taken, but I did not see anyone do anything "Crazy". I guess everyone’s idea of crazy is different though, if you never leave the trail you would probably think we were lunatics!

Agreed that it was a different section that we were looking at when he said it looked unsafe. We did move down the valley to a much smaller face. There was nothing out of the norm for a May ride that we rode that day. Fun times were had by all of us and I wouldn't hesitate to do it all again......and I know we will......:beer;:D

I am going to go back to my needle point and knitting a sweater now and rest up for our next reality show.............:face-icon-small-win:face-icon-small-win

LMAO !

I knew it wouldn't take long for the 1 negative of the day to take over. The terrain we were in all day was pretty stable and we were not riding in extreme avy danger. There was typical avy debris from the last few weeks that you would expect to see riding this time of year but there was NOT any human triggered slides prior to this one area where there were verry slow moving slough type slides from the tracks. There wasn't a problem untill Art couldn't make it back over to the down path and had to try a different path down....Nothing to kick him around for, In Hindsight it is always easier to say what would have been a better way, knowing the outcome wasn't ideal.
Bottom line it was a great day where all riders were aware of the conditions, not a bunch of reckless fools running amuck, yes alot of us Preach safety and that won't change, the more you know about what causes them the better prepared you are to avoid them, BUT the only way to absolutely insure you will never be in danger from an avalanche would be to stay behind your keyboard!
Rant over.

Bwahahaha ... somebody rubbed Byrd the wrong way :D Thanks for the phone call BTW

A conversation heard on the hill......

"what do you guys think?? I think we can go down that chute...I can't see the bottom though....ah what the hell, let's try it".

Don`t ya just love it when the guys that AREN`T there, make the judgement calls the NEXT day about your ride. Winter Brew said it right, Thats what sledding is all about, and good times and with good friends in the sun & slush. Glad your all out safe, even with a little end of the yr carnage. I believe the people that are still riding this time of yr have a little experience under their belts, and are having a blast. It`s the time of yr for real exploring. Oh ya by the way nine of us were up at the ice fields thur. & fri. great sun, great times, and great friends. Carry on guys.---Ken

WE SAID THAT!!!! LMAO That was some of the funnest down hill s#@t I've done. Thanks for the great guiding Roger! I look forward to the next ride with you all and thank for the rope help on the hill boys I'd have been screwed without ya.

Guys---Do not get me wrong--I do not know all the facts of your ride, looked great--But I have had a feeling were I thought--that may not be a great pull--then rode it anyways and had it slide on me--and luckily came out of it okay--just a bit wiser, I Hope to listen to myself next time.
I would definitly not be the one to stay on the trail--A ride is not any fun unless you are making your own way ;).
I just want to see ya all make it back to the truck:eek:.

Ride On!!!

Hmmmm, I think you may be making statements about people you do not know very well and I do not believe you were not there so hw can you make that statement. I have rode with a few of these peeps and consider them SAFE but very good riders. With that said, what they can ride safely may not be what other can do, BUT that does not make what they are doing or posting unsafe. I could not disagree more. Your own personal skill level is always paramount when deciding what you can or cannot do.

Great post and it looks like it was a great day, except for the carnage at the end of the day. Sorry Graveler, that stuff sucks. Keeps riding guys!

that does suck when the slush locks up the steering and the only
option is to jump ship.down here we call that a... runaway slushy.:beer;

I've been riding with several of these guys and found the opposit to be true. Avy danger and everyones safety was at the top of the list. Like someone else said the only way to be 100% safe is to ride the keyboard and second guess everyone.

Big ups to whoever was there and then came on here and admitted they made judgement errors or mistakes, to many times this winter guys have came out ok after an avalanche of some sort and just said something like "hey, thats just the risks we take". Good to see someone own up to something. And that is some gnarly terrain.

Well before it get's too stupid I'll post a few more pics...

The day starts out just like any other sunny May 1st..... First by skipping out on work and then heading out for a little Spring riding.....

Vinnee decides to get everyone's muscles warmed up for the day ahead by parking almost at the top and then asking us to pull him the rest of the way. Get way to get things going...

Some of you might remember this hill from a previous thread I posted last week with a Smurf XP that had rolled down the hill..

Anyway, the look behind me from the same spot....

Not sure why they aren't helping us....

Next up.... The group of 12 splits into two. We get caught back up by use of the radio where we here "don't come up here..we're all stuck. It's a graveyard right now with stumps everywhere."

So of course, we head up to check it out.

Jason is celebrating his climb up on the Mighty M6 while all the bigger sleds were stuck.

Why yes it is a Dragon 700

EagleCreek5-1-09007.jpg

Trees are stronger than Dragons... even when the Dragon is going about 20 mph...

EagleCreek5-1-09008.jpg

Even the Rev 800 didn't like it...

EagleCreek5-1-09009.jpg

What do we have here??? This sled sounds funny....

EagleCreek5-1-09010.jpg

The funny sounding sled is making another run at the hilll

EagleCreek5-1-09011.jpg

A closer look reveals a turbo Dragon..... stuck!!

EagleCreek5-1-09012.jpg

A look up the hill shows a celebrating M6 owner!!

EagleCreek5-1-09013.jpg

The Rev is just now getting turned around....

EagleCreek5-1-09014.jpg

Anyway, now we're off to climb some terrain...

EagleCreek5-1-09015.jpg

The scenery is great up here....
