GRASS FIRE: Almost lost my trailer and sleds.

Thank you to my wonderful neighbor for coming into our house alerting me downstairs in the theater room to a raging fire in our field at 11:30pm last night!

My son and I were able to grab the fire extinguishers and ran into the flames saving our sled trailer and snowmobiles inside as well as the rest of the burning field.

Rigby's finest finished off the flames by soaking everything down.
The Fire Chief determined the cause of the fire was someone setting off fireworks mere feet from the gas tank of our trailer!

Seriously ticks me off, but right now I am just grateful that no one was hurt!

Stupid Kids and pack of LadyFingers!

Fighting the fire in Shorts and Flip-Flops as we can RUNNING up from the TV room to save the trailer and sleds!

Keep that stuff knocked down! Maybe a herbicide and/or a gravel break around your toys.

Glad u got to it in time.
I try to keep at least 40ft of green grass around my trailer just for that reason. Its annoying moving the trailer every 2 weeks to mow but i feel better with green grass under my trailer.

Ya.
I came out of the house and thought the TRAILER WAS ON FIRE and guessed that there had been an electrical short inside the trailer or on one of the sleds and it was a GONER.

Wasn't till I got right up to it that I realized it was the GRASS around and beneath the trailer that was on fire.

2 good fire extinguishers got the flames out from under it, then the fire took off downwind and burned my fence instead.

I HAVE MOWED that dang field, and had JUST mowed 50% of it again.
I need to get the dang sprinklers in and get some GRASS growing instead!

Well its good you guys got the fire out, very close call.

This is why we always try and have a gravel bed parking area under our trailers. Also keeps us from having to move them to mow and you don't have to worry about the grass catching fire in a low water year.

Same here, amazing what a truckload or two of gravel and a little sterilant will do to keep a nice parking area for the trailers. No mud in the rain when you need to hook up, no mowing around them. Just clean and out of the way spot to keep stuff.

Glad your stuff was ok, that would have been a really stupid way to have your toys go up!

We got LUCKY.
there is no other way to look at it.
If my Next Door Neighbor hadn't come into the house and gone downstairs and rousted us out of the TV room, it would have BURNED DOWN.

Why don't you build a shed to park it in? Then it's protected year round. That's what my wife thought she had to do last year! Oh well I guess.

How far are you from water?




Tillage and a garden would make a nice fire break, and cheaper than gravel.
