Grand Mesa lodging

Ok we are thinking of a trip to the Mesa this winter and had assumed we would stay at thunder mountain lodge, but now that doesn't look likely.

Where is the best place to stay.

We like to have a few drinks and socialize with fellow riders and locals at night if possible. We have no interest in making our own meals either lol

We obviously would like to ride from out room but are not opposed to trailering if we need to.

Thanks

Kirk

google these:

electric mountain lodge ride-in/out only
vega lake lodge
alexander lodge
grand mesa lodge
mesa lakes lodge

All are open this winter to my knowledge. And this winter looks VERY promising.
There's no shortage of places to stay up there, so getter done!

Yup TONS of options up there.... Somehow Thunder Mountain became the "only place to go" up there but in reality there's many great options.

I plan to make atleast a trip or two out there with the group this season as well

If you stay ay electric mountain is there a safe place to park and leave your trailer for several days ??

Don't get me wrong I really like Electric Mountain....beautiful lodge and great people. But it is on the lower end of the snow range so if you go when snow is not stellar you may be disappointed. BUT, if the snow is great its a great place to be.

Alexander Lodge has a bar and restaurant and great people also It is close to Grand Mesa Lodge and Mesa Lakes lodge.

Grand Mesa lodge is my favorite because of the great people that run it and they sell race gas on premise so I don't have to carry fuel. They also have NON ethanol pump gas so that makes it my destination (burn an engine down running a bad ethanol pump gas mix and you will see what I mean)

Mesa Lakes Lodge, Andy who ran Alexander last year bought this lodge. They plan to reopen the trail from the lodge up to the main trail. If they do I am sure I will be down there to try there food.

Vega I have never been, maybe a trip this year once to find out?

Grand Mesa in my opinion can only be equaled by West Yellowstone, and I have ridden many places over the years. With 800 square miles of riding I am sure I will never see all of the mesa, in fact we usually find great places within a few miles of the lodge and spend a day before we know it.

The existing lodge owners all work together and if you need something they will not hesitate to send you where you need to go to get it, so call one of the existing lodges and ask for what you are looking for they will send you where you wish if there lodge is not what you are looking for.

Oh, one other thing...webcam at Grand Mesa Lodge if you want real time info on snow. http://grandmesalodge.com/images/out.jpg

I'm not sure what you consider a safe place to park. The trailhead is a Forest Service parking lot. As long as you have an enclosed trailer you can lock up you shouldn't have any problems. I've never heard of anyone having an issue.

Stingray you should definitely make the trip to Vega. Great people, great food. Do not order the monster burrito unless you have a couch nearby!! You ain't gonna ride after eating that thing and you WILL need a nap!

The only drawback to Vega is having to ride the trail several miles to get there. It gets moguled up bad real fast. The trail out of Wilson Creek is a good alternative and it comes out up top on some good riding - I think people refer to it as the little flattops? I've only been there a couple times and like everywhere on the Mesa it's easy to get turned around.

We’re looking at Grand Mesa for our annual club ride this year, probably 35-45 people. Would you recommend one lodge over the other for our large group.

I would recommend spreading the group between Grand Mesa Lodge and the Alexander. Between them you should be able get 10+ cabins.

The Alexander has 7 cabins available, 6 of them have kitchenettes and the lodges offers a full bar, restaurant, and breakfast buffet on request.

GML (Mike & Rose) offer cabins, fuel, and a convience store located 5 minutes apart on the SP trail.

Mesa Lakes Lodge will also be open this year, and offering guiding and new rentals. They are located on the North end of the Mesa, give Andy a call for more info.

need more info drop me a PM.

.........and with planning......Andy @ Mesa Lakes could handle the whole she-bang!

Check out what Ray said....he knows.

Got a hold of all three lodges. I think we are going work something out with Grand Mesa and Alexander. Mesa Lakes Lodge sounds very nice but sounds like the beginner guys would have to trailer to a trail head.

Thanks for the info, all were great to talk to.
