Grand Canyon North Rim info wanted

I'm planning on taking my kids down to the Grand Canyon this spring, early summer. I'm planning on the North Rim, not interested in going around to the South side. I know it opens around May 15. I've never been there so I'm curious if anyone can give me the quick run down of the North side. Is a day long enough to spend there. I have little kids (5 year old) so long hikes are not going to happen.

I'm actually thinking about making it a multi-park visit, going to Bryce and stay at the resort there and then run down to the Grand Canyon for the day, then back to Bryce and then over to Zions another day.

We don't need/want to see it all, just want to get a bit of exposure to the Grand Canyon so the kids can see it.

The north rim is higher in elevation so it holds snow much later in the season. I believe it is also steaper so most hicking is more on the rim and not as much down into the canyon.

The main village is on the south rim. But there are some good views from the north rim. its more of a pine sheltered area close to 9000 in elevation. Point imperial is the highest point and has a good over look, its a scenic drive up to it and a short walk out to the point. Cape Royal is the other popular spot and it has a paved walkway along the rim for a bit.

I would check with park officials on snow levels. Bryce canyon might still have snow mid may too.

And if you feel like spending some coin, and getting the full experience you gotta do this:

North Rim is Good but nothing like the South Rim, a day trip to Capitol Reef with a stop at Calf Creek, would be my advise.

Peace-
